Aww, that almost seems generic by comparison.
IMO, as a party the Dems are weak on policy. Still, leaning the correct direction is better than rushing backwards unto madness. There are some... inequities in existing policies that make it difficult to appeal to a wider audience. The strings attached to benefit groups VS all, it pits needy / jealous people against one another and dampens a unifying spirit that could more easily win elections.
Just this morning a staunch conservative I know was raging over the illegal caravan story. His points? They receive benefits that he does not. It feeds into a life long story, the grand lie of the Reagan Revolution, that government merely exists to take from "you" and give to "others". "Others" like those damn dirty... that to protect yourself you must cut government to the bone. Anyways, it seems to me that more people are looking for help, it's just that they get caught up in old partisan politics and they don't know how to help themselves. Republicans keep throwing scapegoats at them to keep them too busy to see who the real enemy is.
If only we knew how to show them.
