Rings of Power is quite amazing. What is "less than stellar" about it?

But this is weird....I still wonder why Netflix dumped Cavill from his amazing performance as Geralt in what turns out to be a great series for them...and so now he heads off to another really risky gaming/nerdgasm TV show thing that really just risks pissing off all the fans as always happens?

Maybe they stopped caring, which is for the best. As you mention with their LOTR, I can only imagine it is stupid fans that are butthurt about things for no real reason, because that is a fantastic show that does every good thing Jackson did for the material, if not better, in fact. Maybe Amazon is wise to stop caring what stupid fandom thinks about these things. (but I get it--you create these images in your head of how things must be for so long, because that's what books allow you to do, and then when someone else produces their own vision of the very same thing that they also fell equally in love with, it is suddenly insulting and repulsive to your view, because it dares to not be exactly the same)....this is the problem with such content, but it's best that the creators mostly ignore what fans want anyway and just do something that actually works for TV or film, rather than stupid imaginations.

Rings of Power visuals are great, no doubt. Really high production values too. But there is just something off about the acting. The actors don't really have the charisma and screen presence that would be expected from something supposed to be so grand. Wheel of time had the same issue. Other than Rosamund Pike, I had trouble caring about any of the other cast.

Warhammer should have a better chance with Henry's name attached to it. If they churn out just one spectacular season, it would be enough, for me at least.

I don't know much about Warhammer - never got into that. Though I gather that Henry Cavil is in fact a Warhammer nerd, who paints his own minatures, so it makes sense.

I did used to sometimes frequent Games Workshop way, way back when they were just a West London game shop, and remember them starting off making a few geeky boardgames (though marginally less uber-geeky than what they became). So I'm kind of happy for them - if a bit astonished - that they got so 'big' with the Warhammer stuff.

_If_ done right it seems to me it could make for moderately fun movies. But the track-record of that sort-of-thing does not give one a lot of hope.

My understanding of the situation is that he quit due to creative differences.

Side-topic: I can't believe that Liam Hemsworth will replace Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. I've been trying to picture Liam in that role, and haven't been able to square it in my mind yet.

I love 40K but it's way too big and dark and dense to make films about!
Where would you start? I can't think of any start point that wouldn't need at least two full films to explain who the big guys in suits are or who the weirdos are that make all the tech work.
It's too big for any one persons story to matter. That's the crux of the 40K ethos. You are insignificant, all that matters is your service to the Golden Throne.
Which makes for a great dark setting but would make terrible films.

Liam doesn't look tough enough.
Looks can be frayed by the make-up gurus, but it's his demeanor and the way he carries himself in every other role I've seen him in that doesn't jive with the visual of Geralt that I think of.

He doesn't (or hasn't previously) carried or portrayed himself as a tough or hardened guy. He could very well surprise me...I just can't picture it in all honesty. It's not that he LOOKS too pretty...it's that he ACTS too pretty, if that makes sense. He's got a little sugar in his loafers.

Could start with some no-name middling inquisitor. The whole point is they're searching for answers, pretty good starting point for someone that knows literally nothing. Make it a pseduo-detective noir.

'She came to me late in the night. Dame coulda been a worshipper of Slaanesh, but that night, I didn't care. I needed answers, and she was gonna give them to me.'

James Gunn is apparently intent on throwing out the baby with the bathwater when it comes to the DCEU.

Canning Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot is IMO one of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen from a production company. There's less than zero chance I'll invest an instant of effort getting into a "new" cast of characters.

I know that you were making (a good) joke but I'll use it to support my point!
So who are Inquisiors? Who do they work for? What are they looking for?

Idk. People say Eisenhorn is a good place to start in 40k. Don't think it would be too hard to explain the Imperium and Chaos in that setting. Astartes could be later introductions, as I don't remember them being in the Eisenhorn books, but it's been a while since i've read them

You would think the popularity of the Snyder cut release would clue the idiots in charge of DC in that THEY ARE THE PROBLEM not the cast.

Chaos is really complicated! You have to get into the fall of the Aeldari, which goes on for ages!
Getting the idea that the Imperium of Man is some dark grinding machine that doesn't care at all about the individual, that everyone is just meat to be thrown into the grinder . I just don't see that getting made into a film without throwing away everything that matters about the source material.

I wonder how Hollywood is going to shoehorn in a strong female lead and LGBTQ moments into 40K.

But is that knowledge necessary to get started in 40k? I didn't know much about the 40k universe when I started with Eisenhorn and I still enjoyed it. I just thinking they will have to have some basic starting point and keep building into it as there is a lot to tell.

I wouldn't mind seeing these ladies on screen. Eisenhorn has a female pariah with him too.

?? Warhammer 40K has nothing to do with Warcraft.
That's true of the Warcraft movie. It has nothing to do with Warhammer.

Warcraft the game does. Back before Warcraft 1 was completed, Blizzard presented it to Games Workshop in the hopes they would be able to make a Warhammer game out of it. Games Workshop turned them down. Blizzard remade it into their own, Warcraft. It's no surprise Starcraft shares many similarities to Warhammer 40K.
