I'm not impressed by Henessy's professionality, especially in dealing with forumites, none of it makes much sense to be quite frank.

I do know a guy in San Diego who was delivered a Hennessy turbocharged Viper (forgot what it's officially called) and the guy took down a lambo Murc that was modded to produce 880 HP, driven by another guy I know.

So Hennessy did deliver the goods to a guy out of Texas' state. Now how long that took, I don't know.

Yeah I imagine most of his customers do get their cars but I would not send a guy like that money. He comes off as a troll who needs to be banned by mods, not a guy running a multi million dollar business.

That's what I kind of wonder at--how did he end up running this business? From what I understand, it takes talent and skill and he doesn't really appear to have this.

Certainly not with PR, that's for damn sure.

I think it's clear he's an ahole so I can only assume that his products are _really_ good. I know that magazines gush over them. People can overlook certain character flaws if the end result is what they want, I suppose. Perhaps on his standard vehicles (I assume he puts out higher numbers of certain models) he's more predictable. I read one of the posts in the thread I linked a guy put down $144k and seemingly didn't even look into readily available information about hennessey online but he did admit later he was stupid (though not so dumb he couldn't get his hands on $144k for toy money).

Yea, I understand Hennessy's Vipers are pretty epic. He twin turbos or turbos...or does something to the V10 that puts out even more ridiculous sums of hp, and it's able to take on Lambo Murcs that themselves had power upped so I guess he has some idea of what he's doing, but his projects seem very garish to me, and not a worthy successor to the likes of Zora-Duntov, Shelby, Yenko, Mr Norm, etc.

Everything modern seems garish to you.

That's not true. I like the Lotus and...uh...the new Viper? And hrmm what else? The Mustang?

I like the M3 and the new M5 coming out. And the Gran Sport Corvette in certain paint schemes.

But yea, a lot of stuff that comes out now just looks so generic that to make it stand out people do ridiculous things to it.

Hey look another car that nobody can afford for 15 yr olds to beat off to.

hahahahahaha

Lol, you choose two of the most "over done" factory cars out there to say they are not garish?

Covered in vents, unnecessary swoops, and blinding colors:

Again, colors only a blind person could love, big ass chrome wheels, and enough hood vents to be considered a cheese grater

no they're not understated, but they're not that bad. The colors match the shape and pure unadulterated purpose of the car. I like that. I don't mind garish colors on a car that can perform as much as it shows.

I guess I was referring more towards a lo of just sheer uninspired design like the old Malibus, the chevy aveo, the neon, none of these cars really look that inspired.

I like the rear of the new Malibu, but that's about it. And even then, since people became obsessed with resale value of cars, everything is black because some genius spread a rumor that black holds its value better.

Jokes on all the dullards in beige trousers.

I've just read this thread, which has posts made by John Hennessey:
http://www.300cforums.com/forums/general-discussion/21978-efool-gets-punked-his-own-board.html

It was the second result to a "john hennessey viper" Google search. The bloke must be a complete retard for some of the posts he made and it is amazing that his company is still in business.

Its safe to say that I wouldn't trust my niece's lunch money with this a$$hole.

Edit: There were parts, which JHE were upgrading (specifically wheels, bonnets, etc.) on customer's cars where they were selling off the original parts to make some more $$. How the heck is that legal, unless the customer got a discount on the price of the replacement part? Surely, the customer owns the original part, which came with the car as well as the upgraded part, which he/she bought from JHE.

So first sports cars are allowed to be garish because they can perform, but normal cars are uninspired and boring?

What do you want man! :p

Since everyone seems to agree that the guy is an ass and a thief, why would anyone buy a car from him? If you lay down with dogs, you're going to get fleas.

Don't know about Texas laws, but in California where I had my computer shop, we had to at least offer the customer whatever part was removed/replaced, unless the reason it was brought in was that it was a faulty part. In Illinois when I got my CAI installed into my Mazdaspeed 6, the dealer handed me a box containing all the removed parts.

The people who do get good service from him generally end up with well built cars, and apparently he is very personable when you meet him. No idea, I have a feeling he'd do better in business if he stuck to behind the scenes work.

22k for a headers/cam install on a vette? That should be maybe 2k including a tune at a local lsx shop, even for the new C6 z06.

I think he hooks guys that just have plenty of money and takes them for as big a ride as they let him get away with. I've heard almost identical horror stories from local forums at shops here, parting out vehicles and taking years to complete a project, Hennessey is just on a much larger scale with all the publicity.

Like this one is unbelievable: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/weste...rictly-performance-motorsports-long-read.html

First off it's not terrible looking, but knowing that it used to be a Lotus before they did that I can't say it's an improvement.

Second, that spray looks like crap. What'd they use? Rattle cans?

Third, I heard Hennessey was a dead beat rip off artist and haven't heard anything to the contrary since.

Yea, the markup Hennessy does is pretty outrageous, but not unexpected. Kind of a shame because he could probably sell a lot more of these things @ 300k.

Not sure what his business acumen is at this point.

I think it says in the webpage they are limiting them to 10 per year. Probably cause he has to wait for customers with ZR1's so he can steal their engines and convince them they need something better :D.
