helo all,
well, i'm kinda new to distributed computing -- heard quite a bit of them but started to really jump in just yesterday 🙂
anyways, i'm doing rc5 now, and i'm using the pre-configured rc5 client for TA Cube. as you all know, we newbies come up with lots of questions, but sometimes are too lazy to look at the faqs 😉 (no actually, i DID read the faqs but it's still confusing for me). I've asked quite a few questions to dennilfloss, but i thought i might as well ask larger audience rather than bugging him all the time (of course, i'll keep bugging him again from time to time 😉 ). so here are my questions:
first, there's a notice (or warning or reminder or faqs) that i have to setup my client from a root directory of a floppy. well, d/l the client, unzip it to my c:\temp directory, and set it up from there, and it seems like it's running ok. will this do any harm, or will it not update/contribute to Team Anandtech, it will format my hard drive, or ....?? and what's the difference from setting it up from a floppy?
secondly, if at some point i'm going to uninstall the client, what else do i need to do other than removing c:\rc5 ? i remembered reading somewhere that the client saves something to my windows registry, but i can't recall or dunno where exactly it's located at.
thirdly, if i'm so dumb as to download the 24/7 client, while i'm using a modem, will it be harmful? what about the vice versa? (no, no, i'm not that dumb ... yet 😉 )
fourthly, if i put my computer to sleep (put it in standby mode, not drowning it in the pool 🙂 ), will the client still run and do computations? (i'm assuming it won't, since standby mode will kill all processes)
and finally, i'm assuming TA Cube stands for Team Anandtech "Cube". so what's the "cube" for? 😕
thanks all, and rest assured i'll come back bugging you all again 😉
p/s: pardon for the messy writings, grammars, and mistakes on the terms and groups and all 🙂
