Help with ram upgrade

MSI Z87
8GB DDR3 1333 (4GBx2)

I'm looking to upgrade my ram to 16GB. I have my cpu slightly overclocked to 4ghz using the MSI auto overclocking in the bios.
This is the reason I'm not sure if I should get 1600mhz or something else would work better.

Thanks

I can't see DDR3 disappearing for a long time yet. Decent e-tailers are still selling DDR2 and DDR1.

depending on what software your using it for 1333 ram can be a fair performance hit to the cpu
2x8g 2400c10 may be a larger speed gain than your oc to 4ghz
but going to 16g wont help until your using over 8g

Still running this on a X5680 at 4.5, I doubt would hurt it too much.

It's an older X58 Tri memory I guess.

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL7T-12GBRH

But that's just me maybe.

*edit* yeah NM, different critter.

From the articles I read they say just stick with 1333 cause the difference in performance is almost nill.

what software? some aps are not ram sensitive and some are
as for games most games in ram reviews are gpu bottlnecked so overclocking your cpu would make no difference just like using faster ram
a good example of the is the tests anandtech used where 4590s or even a pentium can often keep up with the 4770k@4ghz in the games they chose to test

there is a few games that are not cpu limited and then the performance gain can be as large as something like a winrar benchmark
a 2500k with 2133c9 ram is likely faster than a 4690k with 1333c9
but in most things you wouldnt notice the difference
