Number 1: Quit drinking for a few months or longer. Drinking will ALWAYS weaken your resolve and you will fall for...
Number 2: There is NEVER "just one" cigarette. If you want to quit, you cannot cheat or rationalize "just one," ever. You'll "just one" yourself right back to a pack a day.
Number 3: Avoid other smokers.
Number 4: Urges are surprisingly short lived, but intense. They usually only last 10 minutes or so. Take it one urge, one day at a time.
Number 5: Cold Turkey is the only way to do it. "Tapering off" very rarely works. "Cutting back" is the same. Only a tiny minority of people addicted to nicotine are able to moderate successfully. An addiction is, by definition, the inability to moderate.
