Help with P965-S, How do I get 1:1?

So I have the DFI P-965-S Dark, and I'm trying to overclock an e2140. All the guides I've read state that all you have to do on this board is set NB Strap to 266 and set Ram to 533, resulting in 1:1, but this simply isn't the case for me.
@Currently, ram is running at 800, and fsb is only set to 300.

I am stumped because I don't know what settings to change. I've tried messing with the cpu features to no avail. I have all cpu features disabled, except for execute bit.

I know it can do 1:1 with the e2140, because A: previous owner of this board/cpu had it at 1:1 @ 3.2ghz (400fsb), and B: I had it at 1:1 before! This was when I was having driver issues with Vista, and I didn't bother to look too much into it. I was having this same issue, updated bios, messed around with it. One day I went into BIOS and I noticed it was running at 1:1, so then I bumped the fsb to 350, so ram ran at 700.
Recently reset the bios, and back at square 1. I just wanna know how this board works! Maybe I'm missing something very fundamental that you guys can fill me in...

Current settings:
GENIE BIOS SETTING

NB Strap Select: 266MHz
CPU Clock Ratio: 8 X
CPU Clock: 300 MHz
Boot Up Clock: Auto MHz
DRAM Speed: 799 MHz
PCIE Clock: 100 MHz

CPU FEATURE

Thermal Management Control: Disabled
Limit CPUID MaxVal: Disabled
PPM Function: Disabled
C1E Function: Disabled
Execute Disable Bit: Enabled

I don't have that board so can't help you with BIOS, but you can do an end-run around the problem by doing a BSEL mod to your chip.

You are presently using the 3:4 ratio.

I don't know how DFI words ratios on the old P965 boards, but if it's not a speed, then it's likely something like 333/667 or 266/533.

Yeah, everywhere I read says to set NB Strap to 266, and then I'd be able to do 1:1, but I still don't. Should I try another NB Strap, like 200?

Other than this, I can configure DRAM Speed (533/667/800). Setting it to 533 allows highest OC and closest to 1:1. Also the FSB of course. The ratio isn't locked to 3:4, it's like dynamic or something, the higher I set the fsb, the closer it gets to 1:1. This is what perplexed me originally, and I see tons of OC threads with ppl that simply "set" it to 1:1 via these settings.

So I decided to go into Bios today, and sure enough it was now running 1:1, so I oc'ed just as I wanted =D.
Maybe it's not applying some settings immediately? dunno...

Maybe you have to set the strap, save and exit, then go back in for the setting to take effect?

I did try that. No 1:1 until several days later, i.e. several restarts later.

200 would give you 1:1 (200 fsb for processor equals 200/ddr2-400 for ram speed).

So now, assuming you have DDR2-800 ram, you should be able to set your fsb to as high as 400 and run your cpu overclocked with your ram at stock speed.

Rather confusing

He was suggesting that I restart after setting the strap. Implying that the settings are probably not applied until then.

What I'm saying is that this does not appear to be true, or at least not consistent. I of course would restart after changing any setting and the system still did not appear to run 1:1. It wasn't until several restarts, i.e. several days later, that I booted into the BIOS and I noticed it was finally running at 1:1.

So yeah, it's running great, and ram is current running at only 700mhz, I do not want to overclock as far as 3.2 ghz right now =P

But I am as confused as ever. It worked, but only eventually, on it's own.
