I just got the P4 2.5ghz and want to overclock it some. In the manual for my asus P4T533-C the highest jumper settings for frequency multiplier is 24. And the 2.5ghz has a 25 multiplier. What do I set the jumper settings to? And then the I have to change in the BIOS the mhz to like 110 or something right?
Thanks.

this chip is really not a great overclocker...
i would start much lower, say 108fsb and work my way up
2950 is a very realistic expectation from this chip..
assming you are one of the few that want to call your system a true 100 % stable system.
good luck
and i am interested to see how high you can go.
rambus IS the better choice for this chip.

I believe the multiplier setting is irrelivent on your board( the mult. is unchangeable on the cpu)

make sure you download the latest bios for p4t533...and like bobbyeyes said...you can't change your multiplier...and start with 5mhz increment...105...then 110...then 115...so on...

Why you say this ? ,..i hawe a friend with a P4B533/P4 2.5 who hawe the thing @ 158 FSB 3GHZ with only 0.5 voltage more than default !

WOW.....
then i stand corrected...
you mean he is running at a whopping 4 gig!!!!!
?????

godspeedx:
once you go over 115, drop to one mhz increments... w/ a multiplier of 25, you will hit the ceiling rapidly
good luck

oh yeah...hahaha...if i do my math right...25*158 = 3950MHZ
that sure as hell of a chip...and for $250...:)

But I'm talking about the actual jumpers on the MOBO. There are 9 little things in a blue box that I can set to "on" or "off".

The first 4 are for setting the multiplier.
The 5th is reserved.
The last 4 are for setting the mhz.

In the manual for the P4T533-C it gives you the pattern of "ONs" and "OFFs" for the jumpers depending on what multiplier you have or you want it to be and also for the mhz you want. But the manual only shows the pattern for #-24, not 25 which the 2.5ghz has. What do I do?

the mobo was made before any p4s had a 25x multiplier(not yet coded anyway)...
DISREGUARD that jumperblock.. it means nothing and will not change a thing.(you will see it locked in the bios)
if you want to do this in the jumper mode, just concentrate on the fsb block
why dont you want to try in the jumper free mode?

unless you have an unlocked p4...changing the 1st 4 switch won't do jack $hit...you can try...but it won't do anything to your multiplier...your mobo will recognize your chip as 25x multiplier cpu

Ups , :) , sry the chip he hawe is a P IV 2.53 mhz (19x133) and he hawe pumped the FSB @ 158 wich is 3 GHZ . The cooling he hawe is AVC sunflower .
Sry for mixing CPU's .

So all I have to do to overclock it is change, on the actual mobo, the last 4 jumper thingys to whatever mhz i want according to my manual and then in the BIOS change the mhz to what I just changed my jumper settings to?
This is my first time overclocking as many of you have probably figured out. Thanks.

Also, I have an eVGA GeForce 4 TI 4200. Can anyone explain how to overclock this with Powerstrip? And if I do overclock the G4 will I need to get another fan for it or anything?

I'm using 512mb Kingston RDRAM 800mhz @ 1066mhz.
I'll post here probably tonight letting you all know how high I got and 3DMARK2001 SE scores before and after.

you don't need to change any of the dipswitch setting if you are changing it in the bios, hence jumperless mode

ooooooohhhhhhh, makes sense. Thanks
Can anyone help me out with overclocking the G4 TI 4200 stated in my previous post?

OK, I overclocked it in jumper free mode. I'm not getting as fast as I anticipated tho, fkloster was getting 3.133 ghz on his 2.5ghz p4.

Cooler Master ATC-201 aluminum case - 4 80mm case fans
ASUS P4T533-C
RDRAM
Stock CPU fan

2.5ghz - stock - stock vcore - 3Dmark2001 SE score = 11400

2.7ghz - stable - stock vcore - 3Dmark2001SE score = 11852

2.8ghz - stable - stock vcore - 3dmark2001SE score = 12064 (currently running at 2.8ghz)

2.88ghz - system shut down on 3Dmark benchmark - stock vcore

3.133ghz - blue screen before winxp loaded

Anyone know possibly what I'm doing wrong? Also, I downloaded SpeedFan but I don't know which fans or temps are the processor, case etc. (i.e. it says fan1 fan2, temp1, temp2)
Thanks for any help.

Your best bet is (depending on what quality your ram is), is to try and obtain a 120 FSB setting, which will give you 3Ghz with the 25 multiplier of the 2.5 P4. Also, I believe Fkloster used 1.7 vcore which should be adjusted via the bios setting. This is the known limit with that motherboard you currently have.

Have fun.

not too many people have this chip..
from what ive read, the few posters on other board have not gotten to 3 gigs..
i believe the last time flockster posted, he was at 3 gigs.
your only option is to up the voltage a little and see if it helps .
good luck again

hmm.. I don't have an Asus board.. but i have a p4 2.53 northwood... and the best i could do with overclocking it was 2.85 with a .125 increase in the vcore. I tried 3ghz but it wasn't stable at all.

I'm currently at 2.88ghz running stable with slightly boosted vcore, can't remember what. I'm gonna try and get it to 3mhz when I get home from school but if it's not stable at 3 do you think I should toss the stock cpu fan/heatsink and go for a better one? I mean I've got 4 frickin case fans in this thing, it shouldn't be running very hot. And an aluminum case. :)

I'm running at 37 degrees just sitting idle in windows, while playing UT im running 48 degrees, I haven't checked temp while running loops of 3dmark though, I might get that in tonight, got a lot of homework. I'm using speedfan to determine temp, if you know of a better way or program please let me know.

currently:

2.88ghz
1.55 vcore (stock is somethign like 1.52) - what will the effect be of changing this? will my cpu run faster? temp differences?
12106 3d marks

Thanks.

Asus P4T533-C undervolts notoriously. I have one and at 1.65V, it only yields 1.6V, according to the hardware monitor. I'd say anything up to 1.7V is safe, provided you have good cooling. If you have only decent cooling (stock heatsink/fan), then i'd hold out at around 1.65V.
