its a kwikset privacy lock. it's got a little hole on the outside and i tried putting a paperclip in and poking around but it didn['t work.. how do i open this???

thanks in advance

Unless it's defective, something stronger then a paperclip should open it.

(something like a straightened piece of coathanger should do the trick)

its just a privacy lock, so it should be able to be picked from outside... what straight thing can i get that will fit in the hole that is stronger than a paperclip? ideas plz

I'd be slightly upset if a lock on one of my doors was able to be picked with a paperclip through a lock picking hole.

This lock is specifically designed that way.

I think the lock is just a "privacy lock" in the sense that you use it inside the house only in order to prevent family members from barging in. If that's the case, something like a paper clip would work. Even the key types can be opened by any key shaped object (all you need is to turn the inner cylinder, nothing needs to be pushed)

its one of those locks with a little bitty hole, not the key shaped slots... all my tools are locked inside that room!!!

Give 'er a bootfvckin then. As close to the lock as possible. If it's not a deep-throw deadbolt, you should be able to get in and have minimal collateral.

You're such a n00b. If it's not a push-in privacy lock, then it's a slit edged lock - the lock that you turn will be like || so you're going to have to make a flat edge with the paperclip.

Quiet, you with the functional nonviolent ideas. I want to see pics of the aftermath when he pulls a SWAT-team imitation. 😀

I do this all the time. Get a metal coathanger, and straighten the hook out to where it's straight. Stick it in the hole until it stops against something inside the lock, and just apply gentle pressure. From what I remember, it's not exactly straight in, more towards the right side.

Do NOT apply to much pressure, you don't need to.

He's so worthless he'd probably snap his leg in two when he tries to kick the door in. Or he like runs at the door, jumps, and bounces off and dislocates his shoulder on impact with the ground.
