Lots of consensus about the fact that getting a gaming laptop is a sub-optimal approach. In this case, our decision to get a laptop is pretty much made, so we are trying to get the best gaming value for our dollar. I fully understand the point that a desktop that will outperform this laptop can be built for 1/3 the money.

One last call for anyone to comment on the graphics card thing, and we are probably just going to pull the trigger. One thing I have learned is that if you are buying an Asus, the warranty you get can vary depending on which site you buy it from, which is really bizarre to me.

I checked out the other brands listed above, thanks for the recommendations.

I have 2 gaming laptops and a gaming desktop. The laptops are so much handier I really never use the desktop anymore.

My big gaming laptop can play all the games I want it too, but it's heavy so most of the time I play games that will work on my smaller gaming laptop. It weighs about 4 lbs which means it is very easy to carry around.

So my recommendation is the lightest notebook you can get that will play lots of games, maybe not every game but the light weight is VERY important.
