Hi,
I ran into a major problem with the washing machine brass standpipe in my house, it has a major corrosion problem and leaks. Previous owner must not have done laundry.
Anyway, what's the best way to go about installing a new p-trap? The elbow coming out of the wall seems good, no corrosion problems with it. It seems to maybe be soldered or just so stuck it won't come loose (60 yr-old house). It's all 1-1/2 pipe. I just tested and a plastic slip nut fits and tightens down onto it. Can I just find the appropriately-sized PVC p-trap and screw it on and call it good? The original standpipe is around 24" tall by the way.
Thanks for any suggestions. I'm not too good at plumbing so I don't want to do anything against code.
