Help, windows won't load

I recently built a new machine. For a few days it works fine. Couple problems with games, connection would keep getting lost. So this morning I added an ethernet card so I didnt have to use the onboard one. It works fine. However, after another problem with BF2, I rebooted, and now windows won't load. It gets to the screen where the loading bar is and the 3 bars scroll across. after maybe 30 times, it just freezes up and I cant get past it. I took out the pci card I added today and still no help. not sure what to do :/

Could you try leaving to boot for 10 minutes or more - just to see if there is something happening.
Also, doe it boot into SAFE mode without crashing?
Can you try a load last good configuration from the SAFE mode menu - try this first.

Can you first go into Control panel/system/device manager
Are there any yellow exclamation marks? or red crosses?

Now,
Go into
control panel/administrative tools/event log
Look in both application and system -
Are there any errors there?
If so, what are the most common ones - include the SOURCE, EVENT ID, and any text description -

This is a great start - heads up.
Only problem is that we are in different time zones probably and it is time for be soon.

ok, under application there are some application hangs and errors, but none today.

system is a different story. today there were 6 "service control manager" 5 of them event - 7001 and one was 7026.

also a DCOM - 10005, user system, rather than N/A like the others


the day before there were 3 more service control manager errors, 7011, 7011, and 7034
also, 5x W32Time - 29, 17, 19, 17, 29

Can you tell us what the txt description is for the Service Control Manager errors. Also, did they relate to when you were booting up, or whilst the sytem was in use, or crashes? Do you remember times that you had the system working?

the 7001's say that IPSEC Services, Forceware Web Interface, TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, DNS Client, and DHCP client could not be started because certain of the above drivers failed to load

10005: DCOM got error "This service cannot be started in Safe Mode" attempting to start the service EventSystem and arguments in order to run the server

Not sure what any of them actually mean to me. The only problems I've had were with a couple applications, specifically Battlefield 2 and C&C Renegade.

Can you go into administrative tools, services.

Click the tab STATUS
to sort automatic items.

can you disable the following services - (right click - properties)
wireless zero configuration
windows time
windows audio
Themes (change to manual)
remote registry
NVidia display driver service
HID input (unless you are using speech recognition services right now - for instance - if you are blind)
And on a personal note, for now, disable automatic update.

Go into START
RUN
type 'MSCONFIG'
startup
What items have you got in there with a tick by them?

If the blank one is completely blank, the untick it.

Remember, if it doesn't work the first time, try it again, then boot back into SAFE.

what is a normal range for cpu temps? system temp?

looks like first restart is showing the same problem

cpu temps - maybe 60c i would consider tops of the safe range.
systm temps - 45c is hot, but wouldn't cause a problem.

Ok,
Boot into BIOS,
disable all onboard periphs - sound/nic etc.
Take out all pci cards.
Restart in normal mode

btw, not sure if it helps, but while the bars are scrolling, the hd light is on, then starts blinking quickly, then goes out

OK back into safe mode,
go back into control panel/system/device manager.

Disable the drivers for your nic,

Restart in normal mode.
If that doesn't do it, then back into safe,

disable sound card

retry

If no luck,
remove video drivers

restart

ok disabled all network adapters.

there are a bunch of additional ones listed other than the onboard and pci one i added temporarily today. not sure what they are


ok, still nothing. think i should just call microsoft? sounds like i will be on the phone with them for a while

disable all the suckers - they can always be enabled later - lets just get your system to boot normally.

At worst case - you may have to reinstall xp as a repair - it will wipe, and reload the drivers automatically, but I'm just an ole fashioned man with his ole fashioned ways.
(If it does come to it, I'll tell you now - reboot from xp cd, the second time it offers you to repair an installation - choose that)
Anyway - not yet - we got a few more minutes.

I have no problem reinstalling windows. The cd i have is from school, and i think I get 2 installs with it, not sure if reinstalls count. I also have a 64bit version disc.

Thing is, i am worried it is a hardware problem. does it sound like it? first time ive built a comp, which is why im worried. im going to disable more now

and when you say everything, do you mean EVERYTHING? and do you have aim, would be easier to do this

Sounds either as if the driver for the NIC or the NIC itself isn't healthy, or just a sw issue.
I don't do AIM or msn i am afraid.
My computer is locked down on the security side of things.
Could do irc, but not now as i am really tired.

Would you also wanna uninstall BF?
Just in case......

There is a lot of forceware stuff that is loading up on your sys, but the only way that i think is safe to not load up with it would be to remove the forceware drivers.
I think if you did this, we may have a chance - the theory i am working on is that your problem is software based, and, more than likely a driver based issue as you can get into safe mode.
If you have disabled the suspect NIC, and we have disabled sound, just in case, I think the next step would be to rid the system of your video drivers.

I've only just met that sw and haven't had a chance to try it out properly - but haven't seen any nasty reviews of it.
Uninstall forceware drivers for the million bucks.
I'll wait around for a few minutes.
