HELP: Why is IE running in the Explorer.exe Process not Iexplorer.exe?

Why is my Internet Explorer Process running inside Windows Explorers????? It CERTAINLY wasnt before and it SHOULDN'T. It should run on its own process named iexplorer.exe

It wasnt like this before and I am unable to remember what I did before this is changed. It isnt a MAJOR concern but it brings down stability slightly. Now, if IE crash, it will bring down explorer as it is running within the explorer.exe process.

its there because MS decided to integrate the web browser into their OS. its part of why they're getting grilled by the DOJ in antitrust issues.

There is an option in explorer whether it should run in a seperate process...somehow it must have gotten unchecked. I'm at work, and the computers here don't have IE on them, when I get home on my Win2k computer I'll check the exact settings for you if nobody else has an asnwer for you by then.

I think that Option has been taken out in IE5.01 (SP1?) or sth

but the thing is I DID NOT install IE currently. I installed 5.01 a few MONTHS ago. Thatz the problem. I didnt know what I did and suddenly it is NOt running as a separate process.

I was wondering the same thing. It just started on my 2k machine a couple days ago. All of a sudden ZoneAlarm was asking if Explorer can access the Internet, WTF??? I want Internet Explorer to access the Internet not Explorer. Anyway, I am interested in what is causing this too. I thinks that it is something I installed, d@amn freeware programs screw up my nice stable install.

No, the only thing related to ieplorer.exe that is running when I am on the net is explorer.exe. Even when I run iexplorer.exe from the file itself explorer.exe still runs. I have no idea what caused this. Also explorer.exe is taking up a lot of memory to when it runs as iexplorer.exe. I want my iexplorer.exe back.

The bad thing is that it WASNT running as explorer.exe but Iexplore.exe 2 weeks ago.

I dont know wat I did

ffs

There is an option under Tools | Internet Options in the Advanced tab that says "Launch browser windows in a seperate process". This probably has nothing to do with what you describe, but I thought I would mention it. I can confirm that the option is present in IE 5.00.

I do not have that option available either and I am running IE 5.5 SP1 at 128bit encryption. This also happened around a week ago too.

Here is a screen shot of my task manager with Interet Explorer running. As you can see there is no sign of iexplorer.exe running. Also explorer.exe does not return the memory it has used once I close Internet Explorer. At one point I was using almost 200MB of ram with nothing open. 😕

I dont run IE5.5 because there is this bug of scrolling. It scroll slowly on my system for some reason. Especially noticable on webpages with Flash, an example is www.hardocp.com, IE5.5 will scroll very slow on it on my comp. But no problem at all with IE5.01SP1.

I do not have the problem of slow scrolling even on HardOCP. To fix that just turn off Smooth Scrolling. That has eliminated all problems of slow scrolling for me.

Yeah, I have a GeForce DDR and I have not had any problems with the slow scrolling. I did not have the problem with my old Viper II which has inherently slow 2D.

Has anyone come up with a solution to why iexplorer.exe is not running other than reformatting?

xtreme: I did not find what was causing the Interet Explorer to not run as its own program but I did find something interesting. When I logged in with my backup admin account, Internet Explorer was running as its own program again. So, something must be messed up in the main account that I am using.

try opening an explorer window..go to tools folder options..scroll down to near the bottom and check launch folder windows in a seperate process

I don't know how it is with Win2k but in WinME there is an option to have Windows Update download updates automaticaly. Maybe that was set and it downloaded some update with out you knowing it. Though I think it asks before it installes it. I could be WAY off but I am trying to help.

As was already stated by nuttervm...

Starting with version 5.5 (or maybe even certain versions of 5.0)...IE is INTEGRATED into Explorer!!!

Here's a few options to try...

- Open an Explorer window (NOT Internet Explorer, the Folder Explorer) and go to Tools/Folder Options/View/ In the Advanced Settings area check off 'Lauch Folder Windows in a separate process'
- If that don't do it, you could manually start IE by going to the Start/Run command and type 'iexplore'

I will state again. It was NOT running within explorer.exe before, but suddenly it is running inside explorer.exe. I am an expert in Win2000 🙂 and I dont think I would do silly things to my admin account. But this thing seems to be so 'small' that I just cannot figure out why it is doing it.
