Once and for all, here are the rules (bold added for the ADD folks):
3. Selection of Winner: Starting November 3, 2003, six (6) semi-finalist photos will be posted on the Website in one of the six (6) pet photo categories listed below during the dates listed below at:
1. Big Dogs and Little Dogs (11/3/03-11/16/03)
2. Dressed Up Pets (11/17/03-11/30/03)
3. Pets at Play (12/1/03-12/14/03)
4. Dogs and Their Owners (12/15/03-12/28/03)
5. Extreme Pets (12/29/03-1/11/04)
6. Cutest Pet (1/12/04-1/25/04)
Semi-finalist photos will be chosen by Sponsors based upon originality and overall appeal of photo. Sponsors reserve the right to post photo in the most appropriate pet photo category at their sole discretion. If no category is designated by Entrant, photo will be posted into the category deemed most appropriate by the Sponsors, in their sole discretion. Visitors to the Website may vote for their one favorite photo within each pet photo category.
The photo that gets the greatest number of votes on the Website in each category will be deemed a finalist. Sponsors will utilize each finalist photo to create a CRACKER JACK to be distributed in packages of CRACKER JACK brand popcorn.
The Sponsors will judge the six finalists photos, based on originality and overall appeal of photo, and the photo receiving the highest score from the Sponsors will be declared the Grand Prize winner, subject to verification of Entrant'ss eligibility. Potential Grand Prize winner and five remaining finalists will be notified by telephone and/or express mail, and winner and finalists (or his/her parent or legal guardian if winner or finalist is a minor in his/her state of residence) will be required sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release (except where prohibited).
Signed affidavit/release must be returned within 10 days of notification or prize will be forfeited and may be awarded to the Entrant receiving the next highest score if Grand Prize or if a finalist, the photo in that pet photo category receiving the next highest number of online votes.
Also, in point #5 (General) "...
Photos must be original work of the Entrant; may not have won previous awards; may not have been published previously; and must not infringe any third party copyrights, rights of publicity, or any other third party rights. Photos may not have been published or submitted in any other competition.
In summary:
1) They (Frito Lay/Cracker Jack) pick the dog picture they want those on the Internet to vote for.
2) The top vote getters in the six catagories make it to the final round. (There are
no stipulations on who can vote or how many times.)
3) The best of the six is picked by the sponsors of the event. The sponsors appear to be Big Dog (clothing company), Cracker Jack and its parent company, Frito Lay.
The other contest winners are
here (winners link). Corporate bosses will pick the winner. And going on the other winners, I'd say the "Dogs and their Owners" is a top competitor.
And to Vanstorm, while you'll own a cute little puppy that'll grow to be a great dog, Frito Lay will own the picture and name of puppy Lucy.
