Ok,
we had to reimage some machines that use static ip's
no problem.
When I set the static ip's of 2 certain machines, they will not get on the network.
I know the addresses are good(the pc's always use the same address), but for some reason these 2 certain ip's will not let pc's get on network.
The "2" pc's will get on fine with dhcp, so I tried configuring my pc from dhcp to the static ip's in question, but did not work on my pc, still can't access network with the ips, so I put mine on dhcp again and all is well.
The dns/gateway are all 100% correct, it's the ip addresses that are giving me problems. I thought maybe a duplicat somewhere by mistake, but no, those ip's are not on our network. Anybody have any thoughts?
Tried disconnecting cables, disabling local area connection and reenabling, and power cycling the machines, but nothing.
HELP!
tnx:disgust::frown::disgust:

What OS?
What is the IP addressing scheme/info you are trying to use? (everything: ip, mask, gateway, dns, etc.)
What do you mean by "will not get on the network?"

When u use DHCP, what ips your machines get? Try using the same ips they get from the Dhcp server and disable those ips from the server

What settings does one of the machines receive when it is set for DHCP?
Are you trying to browse the network, map drive letters, or browse the Internet when you receive the "offline" or "online" messages?

EUREKA!
OK, I just found out that it was the vlan.
was reading windows2000mag.net, there was a post about NT doing the same thing, but win2k was immune to it, it's not. (static ip's and vlans causing chaos)
The vlan for the room the pc is supposed to be in, and the vlan in my office is different.
working fine now.
tnx anyway.

A static IP in a vlan shouldn't cause a problem UNLESS you're using an IP that isn't within that vlan. Do that and it's guranteed not to work.
