the only time you gotta worry about periods is when your girlfriend stops having them.

Although it may be an incomplete sentence it seems silly to bastardize it further by forgetting a period. I would use one, and I see many writers use a period after a one word sentence as well. Ok? :p

You should never use just one word as a reply,at least not if your going to whine about correct grammer because there is no such thing as a one word sentence.

  • "I think when people say the utterances in question are ``one word sentences'' they have one conception of a sentence in mind, as that which conveys a complete thought..."

...Suppose I claim to be able to express an important law of physics in one word. You challenge me, and we put some money on it. So I tell you, ``Ask me whether falling object near the surface of the earth accelerate and 32 feet per second per second.'' You do so, and I say, ``Yes.'' Have I won the bet? We may or may not say that I have uttered a one word sentence, but we should not fool ourselves. I have completed a thought with a word, but not constructed one."

<< i forget what is exactly required to be a "sentance" >>

A noun and a verb are required for it to be a complete sentence.

Example: Fish swim.

A sentence that is a command can be complete and have only one word. Here are some examples:

Go.
Stop.
Sit.
Run.

These are grammatically correct complete sentences.

These are commands, though, and I think they IMPLY "You."

[I command you to] go.
[I command you to] stop.

Of course, I may just be spreading my ignorance around. (*shrug*)
