Help settle a stupid arguement (yes, really stupid)

Okay, me and my friend had a lil arguement about grammar a few days ago. He got tired of me putting periods at the end of each sentence, even when it's just one word. So, the question is, would a one word reply count as a complete sentence? and if not, would it count as an incomplete sentence?

<< Dear Cecil:

A page of fun facts making the rounds says "I am" is the shortest complete sentence in English. Can this be true? --Jim Kepler, Chicago

Dear Jim:

No.

You object: "No" isn't a sentence! A sentence needs a predicate!

Oh, OK. Ready?

Go.

You object again: That's cheating! The subject is only implied! Who could possibly call that a sentence?

I.

Yeah, right, you say. And we're supposed to just take your word for it?

!

It is an incomplete sentence. If you're going to avoid being grammatically correct by writing an incomplete sentence, I'd say its irrelevant whether you use a period or not.

Are all one word sentances incomplete then. If I say 'Hello', isn't that a sentance, more or less?

i forget what is exactly required to be a "sentance" but most one word statements are not complete sentances... some are tho.. in fact, in chiwawas recent post, it says that the shortest sentance is. Be.

this has to be one of the more dysfunctional threads i've ever read. and i don't see the harm in putting a period there.
