Seems like if you really cared, you'd just send 'em a big ol' check. Nothing about the proposed Congressional funding cuts prevents you personally from sending as much of your own money to PBS/NPR as you desire (this being a "free" country and all). Or are you people just generous with other people's cash?

Thats the thing about libs, they love spending your money, but not there own. And btw I have sent money to PBS along time ago. But NPR is awful. They wont get anything from me.

Yay for sweeping generalizations that make you look like an idiot

I've never heard anything good out of NPR, but I've only listened to it in Michigan. PBS airs good content once in a while.

That pretty much hits the nail on the head.

Let the people that "consume" NPR/PBS's product support it.

Actually, I don't watch Fox News either. And I'm definitely not signing any stupid petition for the gov't to fund the media, in whole or in part.

Yeah... 'cause there aren't enough alternatives to Fox right?

I'm not signing. They need to survive commercially or die like every other broadcaster out there.

NPR is mostly funded by contributing listeners (like Joan Croc, who donated 200 million when she died) and from corporate matching grants and underwriting. The government funds hardly pay for anything anymore, and it's safe to assume that NPR and PBS will survive without it.

I'm hoping they cut all funding completely.

If PBS wants my money, show programs in ENGLISH.

Until then, heres hoping for their quick and permanent demise.

Public broadcasting isn't an alternative to Fox, it's an alternative to all commercial broadcasting. Commercial broadcasting by definition has a different motivation for what information it decides to deliver to their consumers.

btw, Without agreeing that there is a liberal bias to NPR's coverage, if there were, what would the problem be ? Are you concerned that "conservative" listeners are going to be brainwashed ? Are "conservatives" particularly weak-minded ?

Government sponsored media is a BAD idea. See the former Sovie Union, China and Cuba for reference.

My only 'concern' is that the government is in the media business.

I really enjoy the Cringely postings on PBS.org. As a whole PBS provides an invaluable service. I'd hate to see it go away.

I don't think I'll be signing that. NPR is so boring, and everybody in it sounds so totally full of themselves. They have the smuggest voices ever. Especially Garrison Kiellor or however you spell his name.

Well, that's one retarded petition.

Let PBS and NPR survive on their own commercially if there is interest, but don't expect every taxpayer to chip in so you can hear your favorite shows mostly commercial-free.

And for those that sign the petition, will you please sign my petition to grant 50% of what we spend on NPR and PBS to Fox News so that they can carry the conservative voice commercial free?

 I'm actually more on the conservative side, lol. I'm a poor young dude fresh out of college paying back loans. Like I have money to pay them in large amount, lol.

I just like their programs like Science Friday, BBC world, Sounds eclectic, Car talk, etc.
Very enjoyable stuff. I don't generally listen to their live forums or political talk. Science friday is about science, BBC world is the news, Sounds eclectic is strictly music, and Car talk is strickly cars. :)

NPR calls Pres Bush "Mr Bush" in their reports. Kind of disrespectful, but that doesn't deter me away from listenning to their other programming.

I hate liberals more than I hate the far right. At least conservatives know that they have to work their asses off to go somewhere in life. Of course that's contradictory to my earlier statement, but heck.. free programming paid by my taxes instead on useless shiet? i'm all in.
