Thats the thing about libs, they love spending your money, but not there own. And btw I have sent money to PBS along time ago. But NPR is awful. They wont get anything from me.

I'm actually more on the conservative side, lol. I'm a poor young dude fresh out of college paying back loans. Like I have money to pay them in large amount, lol.

I just like their programs like Science Friday, BBC world, Sounds eclectic, Car talk, etc.
Very enjoyable stuff. I don't generally listen to their live forums or political talk. Science friday is about science, BBC world is the news, Sounds eclectic is strictly music, and Car talk is strickly cars.

NPR calls Pres Bush "Mr Bush" in their reports. Kind of disrespectful, but that doesn't deter me away from listenning to their other programming.

I hate liberals more than I hate the far right. At least conservatives know that they have to work their asses off to go somewhere in life. Of course that's contradictory to my earlier statement, but heck.. free programming paid by my taxes instead on useless shiet? i'm all in.

I used to be a big fan of NPR. In some respects I still am. They do offer insightful programming and do offer points of view not normally heard on other stations. The problem is that NPR has shifted much more to the political left over the years and has become less moderate. The point here is that US taxpayers should not be forced to fund a media outlet, yet alone a partisan one that they may not agree with. The same applies to PBS, although their message doesn't seem to be as political as NPRs. NPR and PBS have every right to broadcast whatever message they choose, just not on the public dime. Let them fund their own agendas just like all the other media outlets.

If PBS/NPR is so great, why can't it pay for itself?

They don't have to rely on commercial advertising like other networks, they should just (1) strengthen their marketing campaigns to encourage more viewer/listener contributions, (2) tailor their programming to appeal to a wider audience, and (3) learn to operate within the budgets dictated by their revenue stream.

PBS' refusal to follow this simple business model, that would still allow it to maintain the autonomy it has always had and prided itself on, is no excuse to demand that non-viewers pay for their network through government subsidies, regardless of what benefit it perceives itself as providing to the public. The fact remains that if it can't pay for itself, then it doesn't actually provide that benefit.

And for those that sign the petition, will you please sign my petition to grant 50% of what we spend on NPR and PBS to Fox News so that they can carry the conservative voice commercial free?

I feel the same way about NASA--but they apparently don't have any trouble getting our tax dollars.
