dude, NPR is the ONLY radio station (besides ESPN and local FM94.9 SD) worth listenning to.

Esepcially when I go up to LA, holy crap. LA has got to have the worse radio stations anywhere. Even their indie 103.1 is a goddamn joke. the indie station in SD (well, the indie scene in SD is HUGE though) is 10000000000000x better.

Music in LA is dreadful.

LA's KPCC is the only station that saves the radio airwaves in LA.

so everyone must sign this.

a little dramatic, the budget cut represents 2.5% of PBS' and NPR's budgets

st. louis has no indie station :(

only stations worth listening to in dc and st. louis are npr and oldies.

i love the dc npr station the best because it's got this show at 8 or 9pm (i can't remember) called radio lab. it's like this really cool, contemporary, "hip" scientific exploration of things we've all kinda wondered at one point or another.... for example, "what's at the edge of the universe" or "how is it that a song or melody that we've never heard before move us emotionally?"... it strings together various specialists and discussions on different things to finally come to a conclusion. it's EXTREMELY enlightening and fun to listen to.

here's a link where you can listen to some of the material from radio lab: http://feeds.wnyc.org/radiolab

intelligent talk ftw.

94.9 During the day though, they play mainstream alternative. At night (big sonic chill) and weekends (sunday, for local 94.9 where they play stuff from local bands only. a lot of them are very surprisingly good) is when they start to play the obsure stuff.

It's amazing how much good stuff you can miss by only listenning to mainstream. Tons of highly talented people here in the SD indie scene.

BTW.. SOUNDSECLECTIC IS THE BEST MUSIC SHOW ON RADIO BY FAR!!! (on npr sundays) http://www.soundseclectic.com/

For the most part, but if you go round saying that all you will get is rolled eyes. And the everlasting argument that they wouldn't be underground if they were any good. :p

I done it. Now I'm probably on some Bush administration terrorist watch list. But f--k it! It's OUR media, OUR airwaves, not their's.

NPR is a liberal wasteland and needs to fend for itself or go out of business. Ill write congress to encourage the abolishment of same.

Seems like if you really cared, you'd just send 'em a big ol' check. Nothing about the proposed Congressional funding cuts prevents you personally from sending as much of your own money to PBS/NPR as you desire (this being a "free" country and all). Or are you people just generous with other people's cash?
