MY PC died and a need to order new components in a hurry. Short story is it wouldn't boot I pulled all the components but the motherboard and PS and still nothing ( no CPU fan, zippy). I disconnected the PS and jumped it out to get it going and the PS tested out OK(not under load anyway). So I am pretty sure the Motherboard is dead.
So I need to get a PC up and running quick and I might as well upgrade a few things while I am at it. I uses it typically to encode some video, play a few games HL2, CS:Source, nothing much newer than that(yet anyway).
Here is what I have:
Antec P160 Case (2x 120mm Fans)
Antec NeoPower 480 Watt
DFI LanParty nf4 Ultra-D (Dead)
AMD 64 3700+
MSI 7800 GT 256 MB
1-GB(2x512) OCZ Rev 2 Platinum
1-160GB WD Caviar SE SATA3.0 HDD
1-320GB Seagate 7200.10 HDD
NEC 3540A CD/DVD Burner
I am thinking about a new Mobo, CPU, and RAM. Possibly reusing the PS, GPU, and hard drives, etc.
Here is what I had in mind, prices from Newegg (any advice or changes would be appreciated)
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 $189
Ram - G.Skill 2x2GB DDR2 1000 RAM $109
Mobo - GA-P35-DS3L $89
Couple questions I had. I built this PC a couple years ago and bought an OEM copy of XP Pro. Will I be able to reuse it or will I have to purchase a new license. If so thoughts on Vista 64, 32, or back to XP? Will my old PS be able to handle what I listed above. Also, I might be able to spend another 1 or 2 hundred more but only if it is necessary so hit me with your suggestions.
Thanks
