Help, no picture/signal on my monitor!

Alright. It all happened two nights ago. I was playing FEAR on my PC. I go to a certain part of the game where I climb a ladder, and suddenly everything craps out. A sound is played over and over, and the screen has weird, silver static-esque particles in lines all over. I couldn't windows key out, so I had to manually turn off my computer.

THen, last night, I was playing FEAR again. At the SAME exact point of the game, it craps out again just like before. I turn off my computer AGAIN. THIS time, my monitor lights goes from green, displays "NO SIGNAL" in a blue box, then it goesi nto standby with an orange light. So I try plugging in my DVI cables again. My graphics card is an evga GeForce 7800GT. It has 2 DVI ports on it, and I try both. Still no picture. I then try using the other cable, D-SUB or something like that. I needed to use a D-SUB --> DVI Converter in order to plug it into my graphics card. Still no picture. I bring out another LCD monitor and plug it in, no picture.

At this point I call my friend and he suggests reinserting the gfx card, so I unplug everything and do so. Still nothng. My monitor works fine when plugged into my graphics card. Another friend tells me that my drivers for my gfx card or my monitor might have been deleted. If that's the case, then how the heck can I put them back in?

I'll try calling evga later..

EDIT: Also, it appears that my keyboard doesn't light up when I turn my PC on. I try hitting caps lock, num lock, etc. and no lights show.. ALso, my PC shut down by itself maybe twice while I was trying to figure stuff out after my monitor wouldn't show anything.

borrow a video card from your friend or pull out any compatable video card from some system and see if that works.

ii was gonna say it might be a IRQ conflict with your sound card. I heard DFI's have some issues when u plug in a sound card. Provided the board ur using is the DFI and your using a the audigy, i would recomend try going on the main boards sound card and then play the game to see if you lock up.

I tried reinserting the RAM, still no go. My friend told me that a colleague of his had the same problem as me with FEAR, and he has a 7900GT evga. Only he didn't have it die on him.

Well i dont know that much about your board, but im guessing its close to my Expert and my old SLI-DR.

In the bottom corner of your board there are diagnosis LEDs. i believe to be exact, its the bottom left side if your cpu is on top. Check to see how many LED's come on after u turn the power on. Usually u want all the LED's to disapear as they go out when each component passes initial test.

I believe it goes like this

5 LEDS = System Board
4 LEDS = DRAM
3 LEDS = CPU
2 LEDS = VGA
1 LED = system booting up. -> u go into bios right after this :p

There Red leds.

and there stacked like this [] [] [] [] []

If your system hangs at 2 lite, it definitely means you need to RMA the card. So in general tell me how many LED's are lite, and then u can diagnose the problem.

<3 DFI except you really need to be an expert to use there EXPERT board. its a series PITA if u dont know how to work a computer bios.

Also im pretty sure on all DFI boards, if u hear 1 long beep followed by a short beep, it means video card too. However u might want to consult a manual on this as i have always used the diagnosis led's over the speaker :p

THanks for the info! My DFI board is a Lanparty UT, but I'll definetly check this out..by the way. I kinda hate having to manually turn off my PC every time I boot it up to see if anything works. Is it damaging to turn it off after inspecting?

if your computer locks up while in the booting stage, you can always hold down the power button for 3-5 sec and the system should turn off.

As for flicking the switch in the back while your feeding it power, i have no idea.. you should PM GalvenizedYankie or Howard on this question as they are the guru's of PSU's in this forum.

Okay well, I only saw one red LED on the bottom left corner. There was no beeping whatsoever. My sound card is kinda in the way of things though. I guess I'll take a picture of my stuff for you.

Aigomorla told me:

sorry i gave you the wrong info.

4 LED = bad board
3 LED = bad cpu
2 LED = Bad Ram
1 LED = bad video card.

So your seeing 1 led, that confirms your card is dead. :X

Tell the guys over at EVGA that you have a DFI board, and the diagnostic LED's point to bad video card.

You might want to try another video card to see if its your PCI-E thats bad or if its really the card.

If the comp boots up with a different card, the old card is bad.

GL on the RMA. EVGA is awesome in RMA, about 1 week turn around tops.

Alright, well, all I need is an anti-static bag, bubblewrap, and I'm good to go on sending my card..I just wish I knew someone who has spare PCI-E card..everybody I know only has an AGP or something. But can't I still plug one of those into my mobo?

lol... no... PCI < AGP < PCI-E

All 3 slots arent compatiable with one another.
