it has never happened in the almost 3 decades of my life force

Well I bought my first house a few weeks before I turned 22;
about a month after I moved in I noticed the water was dirty looking. :(
The City was flushing the Fire Hydrants, and one was real close to my house.

Ugh I had white clothes in the clothes washer they were all dirty looking. :(

Good luck next time. :)

One time I was in the shower, and I farted. Immediately the water turned brown, I thought it was a wet fart, so I was trying to flush it out, but it kept getting worse and worse. Being early in the morning and super tired, I was just so confused. I then realized it was not my fart that did that, but just a really messed up coincidence that the water coming out of the shower head was actually brown.

What? Soft water only for hot water? Nope.. its for the whole house. It should be plumbed into the entire house water supply, not just hot water.

I guess that depends on how your plumbing is setup.
If you don't have different water lines for kitchen/bath, (so you can drink that water) then it is only hooked up to hot.
This is what the plumber did, and the house did pass all inspections & water quality tests.

On the subject of brown water, if ever you find yourself needing to use an eye wash station because you spilled something in your eyes, good idea to let it run for at least a few seconds to double check the water. That thing probably has not run in years. :p

Thanks for the heads up. Next time I have burning acid in my eyes I'll be sure to let it run for a while first so I don't get any of that old water in my eyes :whiste:

At my last job, we had an office in a 100 year old building. When we'd break for the Christmas holiday every year, the place would be vacant a week or so. I remember always turning the water on that first day back and seeing a nice rusty colored water come out of the pipes. It only happened when the place was closed for a few days.

The truth is, there's a lot of stuff in our water that you don't see. They filter the water, but ultimately treat it with chemicals. Chemicals help the color of water....but you may want to consider getting a whole house filter. You can pick up a housing from FiltersFast.com and get a 5 micron filter to go with it....then just change it out every few months. I have one under my kitchen sink on the cold water line and I have another filter going to my tankless hot water heater to keep it clean.

Hey, better safe than sorry, who knows what kind of reaction acid will have with that rust. :awe:

On serious note I would imagine those things get flushed out regularly to ensure there's no sediment and other crap you would not want in your eyes.

Run a faucet for a few minutes. Maybe the city did some work on the lines. that will cause a bunch of brown water to go through the lines and it just needs to be flushed (no pun intended) out. With the toilet what happens is this water makes it into the tank and starts to stain the inside walls and it takes a longer time to clear up.

This is dead on. City did some work outside of my house and the water was brown for about 4 hours after due to residue in the pipes (looked like dirt) even after multiple flushes.

Had the same problem here due to a broken line. I ran the hose in the back yard for 30 miniutes.

Did you just get married by any chance? My buddy said when his new wife moved in, his toilet water turned blue.

You haven't read many of OP's posts if you think he got married...

He's a Darwin award candidate on a good day.

what, so you think you're special?

Alexander the Great conquered Persia by the time he was 20.

...why don't you go conquer Persia, then we might give a shit.

Thanks.

Nah I don't want to go to war, I am too old.
I just retired at age 55, after 35+ years. :)
