REMOVE THE VORTEX2 IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT is causing your problems.
It screwed with my for a month before I finally narrowed it down.
I couldn't even get my (kt7raid/duron650) system @ default until I pulled it out.
Now im running 933 :D

I don't know if you've solved this yet but let me clairify my earlier point. If you make a move from an intel chipset to a via chipset you may encounter problems. Many of the drivers are different (that's why we load the 4in1 drivers as soon as windows is loaded). If that's your situation, then by all means backup your files and reformat, then load appropriate drivers, and update all other drivers as well (video, sound, NIC, modem, etc.)

The vortex2 chipset has a hardware timing incompatability with the K*133* chipsets, so your done over.
NO DRIVERS, NO NOTHING will solve this problem, short of removing the card (like you did).
Don't even try to, I've survived a month of this crap.

jeez, what will it take to convince you?
It is a hardware timing incompatability.

the problem is that when the PCI bus is loaded hard, it cannot get the info to the vortex2 chipset fast enough and the vortex locks, and takes your system with it.

Common problem on the kx133/kt133/kt133a chipset.

My problem seems to be solved...I removed the vortex 2 card and reformatted the hard drive. I haven't had any problems yet
Thanks to everyone for all of their input on the matter.

If on your first post you would have listed all you components We could have told you right away that the Vortex was the problem.

Next time give us all the details you can, this way it saves a lot of time troubleshooting.
