Based on someone's sig:

Religious lunatics dominate the Republican party!

Religious lunatics do not dominate the Republican Party. They are a small, annoying, minority of the party. Just like the extreme left wing nut jobs are a small minority of the Democratic Party.

I was in Topeka in the mid 90's and they were out in force during that time... So you're saying that they are a product of Clinton since They were active in Clinton's presidency?

saying they'll twist anything into a hate-Bush comment

These people are really spooky IMO. Apparently the patriarch, Rev. Fred Phelps, was actually a civil-rights attorney of some kind, until he was disbarred.

They had the balls to protest at Matthew Shepard's funeral (he was the young gay man beaten to death in Wyoming, in a gay-bashing incident), holding signs reading "Fags die, God laughs," and some even worse stuff.

Phelps has raised an entire family of gay-haters, and they have appeared on the Stern show a couple of times. It's really creepy to hear a 7-year-old boy talking about how God wants "fags" dead.

He was 33, died of pneumonia, so they assumed he was gay. He wasn't, was married and had 3 kids in fact. Still they showed up at his funeral and had signs that said things like:

"God is glad this f@g is dead"

"This f@g is burning in hell"

Etc, etc, etc......

This was in 1998 by they way.

Whether the deceased was gay or not, such conduct is completely inexcusable. :|

Ummm.... no. The christian religious right hasn't been a big factor for the Democrats in decades.

Anyway, my point is it is a little silly to complain about these guys when you vote for their #1 supporter, GWB. If you want to do something getting rid of nuts, you would have voted Democrat. Hence, I don't feel bad for the OP. You made your choice. Get over it. Just like I won't feel bad for people that lose all their money in a retirement scheme if they voted for GWB, who is trying to do away with social security. Sorry. Would you feel sorry for a liberal for being a victim of affirmative action? (Well I would but I'm opposed to affirmative action in most cases 😛)

They didnb't support him like they do the Dub but they were active back then.

but the religious left is, and the democrats are working hard at alienating them to.

God hates sin but loves the sinner.

So go hates no man, but hates, from time to time, the actions of everyone.

some people have major problems that they try to ignore by pointing to other problems.

are you saying that if Kerry had won then the right of these anti-Christians to protest would be abridged?

otherwise the logic of your argument falls apart.

No but having Bush in power empowers them to seek their agenda of armaggedon since chimpy is on a death trip for this country.

I really don't like the Dub but I hate having the likes of you and your ilk on my side even more!

Absolutely correct, but note that these Phelps fanatics claim that God hates the sinner, and use that as the excuse for their own hate. On top of that, they are Calvinists and believe in predestination.

Apparently, their hypocracy knows no bounds...

No doubt...it's people like these that make me hope there really is a Hell. Nothing would be more fitting than these jackasses burning in Hell and getting ass raped by some burly demon.

Agreed.

At the risk of spinning this discussion off into another, more controversial area, I sometimes marvel at the way some people use the name of Jesus Christ in furtherance of the most hateful, exclusionary agendas imaginable.

I find it very hard indeed to believe that these same assholes wouldn't be calling for Jesus' head if He appeared again in an earthly form today with similar philosophies (i.e., love thy neighbor; judge not lest ye be judged; blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth, etc.).

If heaven and hell exist, and their respective rules of admission follow Christ's teachings, these kinds of animals will be appropriately roasted and jabbed with pitchforks for eternity.

This is exactly how it is when they have Klan rallies here in IN. Pretty much no one but a few protesters pay attention. The media hardly mentions it.

I thought Christ said the only prerequisite to Heaven was to believe in him.

The group has drawn attention before, protesting 9-11 ceremonies at Ground Zero in New York City with signs that said "Thank God for 9-11".
What!? 😕 Why the hell did they do that? Bunch of idjits.

They believe God hates America (I think their alternate URL is www.godhatesamerica.com) because of American tolerance for homosexuality. From that site:

Pat Tillman and Nick Berg are in Hell! They'll be there for all eternity, and there's no amount of wailing that will change that simple fact.

Pat Tillman could have used his influence for good, and instead, used it to promote the filthy American army; the same army that rapes little Iraqi boys. He got what he deserved!

Nick Berg died for America's sins, and you can rest assured that more will do the same. A nation that has totally given itself over to worshipping the sodomite can only expect destruction and wrath at the Hand of God.

Ronald Reagan is in HELL! WBC picketed his funeral to remind America that there is a hell, and that you can't mock God all your life and avoid landing in it.

Just playing debbil's advocate here (no pun intended 🙂), but then do you think God draws lines between sins and degrees thereof? Because we all know (though some are loathe to acknowledge) that even Christians are low-down dirty sinners like everyone else.. the difference is that they're forgiven (to boil it down). So if Phelps has asked for God's forgiveness for his sin of "i love you hating" is he not forgiven?

Those are questions that IMHO really gnaw at people (Christians and non-Christians alike). How does one reconcile Christ's teachings with "believers" who sin often and with visibility and "nonbelievers" who help little old ladies cross the street?
