"they were protesting with some signs that were so violent, we had to blur some of the words contained on them."

Reminds me of some of the 5th column's signs I've seen.

I live in Broken Arrow... Not too far off...

I used to live in Topeka Ks and I tell you what.... They are the biggest group of fools I have ever seen. One of the things they learned real quick in Topeka is NOT to give them any news time. They thrive on the attention.

In the mid 90's they went to San Francisco during a gay rights parade and they protested. They were chased down by parade goers and sprayed with tear gas and some were beaten etc... THEY LOVED IT because they made national news and had a HUGE amount of publicity at no cost.

The secret to these guys is to say as little to and about them as possible and let them go away.

"Police discourage counter groups from protesting to avoid the possibility of physical violence. "

The media should be discouraged from covering these hate-mongers.

On behalf of Kansas please accept my apologies for having to harbor those idiots. I live one county over from Topeka (one of the only two counties in Kansas that Kerry won) and Phelps and his minions are over here all the time protesting.

But others are right, they live by the tenet that "there is no such thing as bad publicity" so not giving them any is the best way to neuter them.

Then you shouldn't have voted these wackos into power.
You might as well give them a big hug for jesus and thank them for getting shrub elected.
This is exactly why people want Bush gone. By voting for their canidate you empowered them in ways 100 reels of newsfilm couldn't have.

These morons have been around for much longer than Bush has been President. In fact they protested at the funeral of one of my best friend's cousin. He was 33, died of pneumonia, so they assumed he was gay. He wasn't, was married and had 3 kids in fact. Still they showed up at his funeral and had signs that said things like:

"God is glad this f@g is dead"

"This f@g is burning in hell"

Etc, etc, etc......

This was in 1998 by they way.

I'd bet shinerburke missed the checkbox on his ballot for "Westboro Baptist Church".

BTW, did you vote for this group?

This a true bunch of hypocrites.
They contradict their own teachings.
By their own statement on their websites they follow the
"THE DOCTRINE OF ABSOLUTE PREDESTINATION" which specifically states "The Deity is possessed not only of infinite knowledge, but likewise of absolute liberty of will, so that whatever He does, or permits to be done, He does and permits freely and of His own good pleasure.".
By their own statement they have confirmed that God does allow Gays to be "created" otherwise they would not exist and he must be pleased that they exist. God must also have known that Gays would exist since he has "DIVINE WISDOM AND FOREKNOWLEDGE". If he hated Gays then he would not have allowed Gays to come into existence.
And you can aruge that God allows man to become sinful and I will not argue that this written in this Doctrine. But I can argue with the following line "Those things which, seemingly, thwart the Divine will are, nevertheless, agreeable to it, for, if God did not permit them, they could not be done, and whatever God permits, He permits freely and willingly.".
So here God willingly allows homosexuality for if he did not, they would not exist.

I wonder if any of these people can see beyond the words they speak or are they all mindless zombies of
words written by "MAN". They cannot even see the hyprocrisy they heap upon the very words they follow.

My true hope as an Aethiest is that all follow their beliefs with at least a grain of objectivity.

When you follow blindly you are doomed to fall off the cliff when lead to it.

Oh no! Kids let off fireworks while we the GOP drops BOMBS on peoples houses right now.
I guess those bomb throwers are learning from example. Maybe they were practicing to be republicans in ANOTHER country.

these intellectual heavyweights also made their way over my university in MD a few years back

UMD

interesting excerpts:

"Among the many anti-gay and anti-America signs in their arsenal, the Phelpses will carry a sign with a simple message that hits on the area's recent tragedy: 'God sent the sniper.'"

"Since the campaign started, Phelps' notoriety has grown immensely. George magazine featured him as one of the 20 Most Fascinating People."

"In the 1960s, Phelps preached against segregation and racial discrimination and received awards from black organizations for his civil rights work."

"The Westboro Baptist Church issued a statement announcing its plans and condemning the entire university body. "God hates C.D. Mote Jr., his administration, staff, faculty, alumni and student body," the statement reads."

I wonder what our wonderful AG, ASScroft has to say about this?

These people are a disgrace to our society, but we can not prevent them from protesting. In America, even the KKK has the right to protest. Once we lose that right we are no longer Americans, and Al Queda has truly won the war against us.

I think a majority of Christians have dreams of spreading the gospel to atheists but perhaps the bigger goal is to educate the Christian idiots. How can anyone take a religion seriously when you have morons running around in it.
