I bought a 378 dollar treadmill at Walmart, the best one they had.
Today the clutch (?) broke while I was on it.
Landed on my face!

I live in Vermont so it is difficult to really get out too often to see treadmills.
There is a Dicks Sporting goods about 20 miles away.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
I used my old treamill 25 out of the 30 days I had it. I am ADDICTED and need my fix!

EDIT: This is the one I am getting.

EDIT: I eliminated two of the possiblilities based on warranty and owners reviews.
Its down to the Horizon and the Proform. Leaning to the Horizon due to warranty and user and internet reviews.

I don't know. I wasn't that interested for 378.00 I figured a years use would be far cheaper than a health club membership.

how much is a gym membership in your area?
I don't know. However much it is I would get a big discount since I do the owners computer service. However, in Vermont, any distance to the health club is a huge hassle in the winter. Warming up the car, driving there, changing, working out, showering, coming home, changing, etc. In 5 degree weather with snow.
I really want the convenience of a home workout.

i can definitely see how that would be annoying, but i always bring it up as it's worth considering. in my experience, most treadmills you buy for your home - unless you're willing to dump a LOT of money - are pretty crappy. They tend to provide poor cushioning for your knees, break down VERY often, are loud, have uneven/awkward movement and just aren't worth the money. note - this assumes you actually use your treadmill quite often (~3 times per week). if it just stands there then yea, it'll be juuust fine :)

by contrast, the treadmills at most gyms are typically *very* high quality (i'd guesstimate in the $1.5k range) and usually receive maintenance quite often. i pay ~$25/month for my gym membership, or around $300 per year. for the price of one (mid-range) treadmill, i could workout for 3 years and in the process get a much better workout as I'd have access to ellipticals, rowing machines, free weights, weight machines, classes, etc. even with a more expensive gym membership, it's still a better value proposition.

There is another reason I want one at home that I failed to mention. My computer shop is in another part of the building and I open at 1 pm. Otherwise I am by the phone from 9-1 for emergencies, appointments, etc. I use the treadmill from about 10-11 every day, so I am by the phone and excersizing at the same time. FTW

I went and checked them out today.
This is the one I am going to get:
http://www.dickssportinggoods....-DSP&parentPage=family

It doesn't have a fan, which would have been nice, but I can get one and put it on a table near the treadmill. It does have speakers for my mp3 player.
And the "cup holders" are strangely angled so I doubt I can put a water bottle in it without it coming out. I guess I can live without it.
I am getting the 3 year in home warranty for 149.00. I checked with the warranty company and they will come to where I live in Vermont if I need service.
So tomorrow I will lug that sucker up the stairs and build it.
