OK, so i check my campus email after work and see "scholarship" in the subject line a non-spam email address in the from column, so I say sweet and read. It says I've been awarded a scholarship from my masters program, doesn't say how much, and requests I bring a dean-addressed-thank-you letter when I come to sign the papers. I work next to the office and have a shift at noon, so I need to write it tonight. I don't know what to write, so I will leave it to the collective wisdom of you classy OT folks to guide me.

cliffs:
1. get scholarship email after hours
2. no mention of amount
3. ask for thank you letter
4. can't seem to write anything that doesn't suck
5. pointers?

You only thought I was smart. I really had to get an internet forum to write this letter.

Thanks,

Here's my letter (use letter format):

Hello [name],

I am the recipient of the [scholarship]. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support.

Your generosity will help me realize my goals. I am grateful for the opportunities this award will provide me. I rely on financial aid and student loans to help finance my education. Receiving this scholarship will help reduce my financial burdens and motivate me to continue pursuing my education. Once again, thank you for supporting the students of [school]. Your generosity truly makes a difference.

I'm good at writing papers, but suck at polite letters. How long should it be?

No doubt.

Amazing.

Don't you have any non-forum friends you are confident to ask?

After that, I will strive to achieve the attention span and vocabulary necessary to write an entire paragraph on my own.

kthxbye

all the thank you letters i have written and also what my wife has written(she was a communication major) for scholarships were ~1 page.

depending on the complexity of the issue, letters i write to my governmental representatives are ~1-3 pages.

They asked you to write a thank you letter? Thats weak.

You should write it because you feel obligated.

I agree. Tell them to eff themselves and the money they rode in on...whoops...guess you can't do that.

I would have written something within a week, but the way it's shaping I think I need to turn bring it in tomorrow, and my new gal pal is too busy writing a paper. Haven't made new friends in the new city yet.

The future of mankind is bleaker because of you. That is, unless you're trying to get your Masters in Mimeology. OK. Even then...

It's really sad that you can't write a thank you letter in under 15 or 30 or 45 minutes. Did you cheat your way through college? Just have to ask.
