Hey fellas.

Was hoping you could help me think of older computer games or newer games with low requirements that I could play on my work lapotop:

Intel Core 2 T5600 1.83ghz
Intel GMA 950 256mb
2 Gig Ram

Here is my situation. I am a project engineer for a heavy highway construction company in the Chicago area. When big snow storms hit I and my company have to go to O'Hare airport to do snow removal so your planes hopefully keep departing and arriving on time. I am looking for older games that could be played in my truck using the touchpad. All I do there is supervise the dozer operators and truck drivers and probly once every 40 mins or so go tell them what to do. My shift can last up to 20 hours sometimes so it gets very boring.

So far i have only come up with Heroes of Might and Magic III. Great game, turn based so easy to use the touch pad and easy to put on hold in case one of my guys screws up.

Any other suggestions?

**EDIT** Just remembered that you can use the Xbox 360 Controller on the PC. Any games that could run well on my laptop and play decently on the controller would be great to know as well. **EDIT**

Thanks

City Builder - SimCity series, Impression Games series (Zeus, Pharaoh).
Turn Based Strategy - Civ Series, Galactic Civ 2, maybe Rome Total War.

My biggest suggestion was going to be HoMM III, it's all I ever play on my laptop ;).

Man that would rock if Rome Total war would play on this thing. The battles would be a little cumbersome on the touchpad but damn I love that game. Will have to give it a try.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Keep em coming!

Risk II
Civ series

These two are all he'll ever need. I don't think Civ IV would perform well at all on an intel GPU, but Civ III would run flawlessly. :)

But if you want more...
-----------------------------------------------------
Plants vs. Zombies (although it will get hectic and difficult without a full on mouse)
Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition
Sam and Max Freelance Police Games
Everyday Genius: SquareLogic
Machinarium
Braid
World Of Goo
Torchlight (also difficult without full on mouse)

Older games that are still great today:
--------------------------------------------
X-Com: UFO Defense and Terror From the Deep
The original Doom games (mouse look not required!)
Duke 3D (also another mouse look not required fps)
The 7th Guest
Heroes of Might and Magic III
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

EDIT:
-----
The Dig
OddWorld games
Peggle

There are also a HUGE number of casual games on Steam that may or may not interest you. Once you download and run the game once, you can play any game offline if you happen to be at a place without an internet connection.

Gal Civ II might run on it... processor and RAM are probably fine, but I don't know about the video.

Baldur's Gate 2 should run more than fine. Look around the Web, make a mega compilation of both games and expansions and some mods and you're looking at 200h+ easily with one character per game :) You will have one giant game that starts at Candlekeep and ends with Throne of Bhaal. All you need imo.

There is also HoMM3 and the Civilization games. And everything else that's similar, like Alpha Centauri or Master or Magic/Orion series ?

I edited my original message for new readers but any games that play well on the 360 controller and could run on my laptop would be awesome to know as well.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!

zsnes and nestopia (emulators) are pretty decent with a 360 controller. The D-pad isn't as good as a real snes controller imo, but it's more authentic than the keyboard.

Smash TV on MAME it's freaken sweet with a 360 controller too. Bind it so one analog stick moves the character and the other fires the weapon in the direction you point it, which is pretty much how the arcade version was.

Baldur's Gate series and Alpha Centauri for sure.

I've been playing a game of Baldur's Gate off and on this year on a really old laptop and it still retains all of it's original charm IMO.

consider investing in a sony psp. I was on a project last yr that required me to sit on my ass and watch a laptop doing remote monitoring of weatherstations and dust monitors. The PSP was a godsend.

OP, I'm not sure your vid card will play it but I recommend the best (IMHO) game ever released ... Homeworld.

4X and other turn based games would probably work the best. Or adventure games. The Space Quest series is awesome, and pretty cheap. I will often play that on an old laptop. The Galactic Civilizations Series would be a good 4X time waster. Same with the Civilization series.

OpenTTD, it is the most addictive game since TTD in 1994. Pretty much runs on anything made in the last 10 years.
