Help me settle a dispute with another AT member

So I sold MRGOOCH a PC retail copy of Far Cry 2. He gets it a couple days later after he promptly paid and I get 5 messages from him last night (Saturday) saying he can't get around the SecureROM and it won't install on his PC.

Since I didn't respond in 5 minutes he filed a dispute with PayPal saying the item "was not as described" which is an out and out lie.

Now, we have been emailing back and forth all morning and he finally says, if I just give him his refund, there will be no "penalty." Excuse me? What did I do to deserve a penalty?

I highly doubt Paypal would even honor this ridiculous refund request. Does it state the seller is liable if the buyer won't alter the state of his computer (ie disable/remove dvd ripping software) to get the game to work?

I told him we could work something out but not with this paypal threat hanging over my head.





OK enough bashing here. This is locked because I am in the process of getting this resolved between buyer and seller

If you sold him the DVD and it wasn't scratched or damaged, I don't think he can do anything.

Is that the person's username? You might want to edit the name out just so it isn't a call-out.

Why can't he install the software? If he has conflicting software its his problem, not yours.

If the problem is SecureROM and not a corrupted/damaged disk, then it's his problem. Same as if he tried to run it on inadequate hardware. Tell him to pound sand

I'm not sure how much PayPal tends to side towards the buyer but you should lobby hard to get that dispute cleared and tell him to fuck himself. Assuming the item was as described and not damaged or missing anything necessary for the install.

Yeah that's ridiculous, not your fault the buyer didn't do his own research before buying.

Pull your funds out of PayPal ASAP so they can't do a chargeback.

If he could do something reasonable to make it work, I don't think he has a claim.

If he bought it in a store, would he be able to return it? Probably, but he would incur shipping charges if he bought it online.

I'd ignore his tough talk.

AFAIK they can reach into whatever accounts you've associated with the account and grab your money anyway

Really? since when did they start doing that? I haven't used paypal in ages. More of a reason not to now I guess.

If all the details are correct, the guy is being a total jerk. If he can stop the payment, it's better to get the Game back and hope that he isn't outright lying and using the Key to play the game. PC Games should be Sold "as is" and with "No Refunds". There are just too many ways to get screwed over otherwise.
