Help me pick a man bag

I've ditched my iPhone in favor of the freedom of a palm pre/zune/ stand alone digital camera (compact) but find that my pockets are always so full that I look like a horse. Any suggestions for a man bag?

Here's my criteria:
1. Age appropriate. I'm at that weird age (28) where I can't get away with beatnik inspired Urban Outfitter wear with band patches yet don't want something too stuffy

2. Must be able to hold: Netbook (optional, really. my msi wind rarely leaves the house), zune with headphones, digital camera (compact, I leave my SLR home), keys

3. Not too big - I already have 3 laptop bags that I don't use. I also live in NYC and don't want it be a target

4. Prefer the Kenneth Cole look over the Microsoft look (I don't like funky colors, such as gray/black with orange trim), if that makes any sense. Kenneth Cole made a messenger bag that was PERFECT, but it's discontinued (bag for mercy was the name, I believe)

5. Prefer synthetics over leather, mostly for cost

6. sub-$100 budget. Ideally, i'd like to spend $50. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs - the last $250 man bag I bought was peed on.. WHILE HANGING IN THE CLOSET. They're like ninjas! Ninjas that pee on things..

7. Work and weekend appropriate

Thanks!

Cool looking bags, but I think they look too sporty. I mean, I'm an overweight geek and this line seems perfect for people with.. energy?

go for a jack pack. it's impossible to get more macho than something jack bauer carries.

either that or an indiana jones satchel. although indy is questionable at times.

this is what I am currently using: messenger bag

only $25 too.

I guess it's made to draw on or something and comes with a sharpie marker but I have not drawn on it or anything. I just left it plain.

Great price and plain enough to not scream "LOOK AT ME!" Would you say it's a good size for my purposes, or is it too big (more of a laptop bag)?

Nice one, looks good, decent sized, 2 out pockets are nice to sore wallet and other bit and pieces. On the inside it has a zip across the back so you can store other stuff away from main compartment.

I've had it for 5yrs now. Worth the £125 I paid for it.

Lulz @ replacing one device with the freedom of 3 devices. :p

That Amazon link that pontifex posted has measurements. If you get much smaller than that I think you're looking for a purse.

It's better to get one that will fit a laptop, rather that one small enough to be confused for a purse.

I have a kickass gas mask bag from the army, with army stenciling all over it, and I still get shit for it being a manpurse. Whatever, it's big enough to hold my welding gloves and goggles, assholes.

Ha - well, I really hated at&t and, while my palm pre plays music/pandora just fine, I really do like zune pass.

I suppose I don't need to carry around a digital camera since the pre's camera is rather nice (has a flash too!), but I'm pretentious like that.

P.S. The military surplus store is AWESOME. Thanks!

for a cell phone, small camera, and keys, probably too big. it says you can fit a 15.4" laptop in it.

I use it to carry notebooks (paper) for work, pens, mp3 player, and my work headphones. works great for that. seems pretty durable too. I like that it has a clip lock for the main flap, a small zipper pocket in front and another small mesh zippered pocket inside.

Alan: It's where I keep all my things. Get a lot of compliments on this. Plus it's not a purse, it's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.
Phil: So does Joy Behar.

I love my chrome bag. They are more suited towards riding though. When you load them up, they are great for biking but tend to get a bit uncomfortable to walk around with.

Generally not a fan of patches either but my friend made it for me and made me an honorary member of his bike club. Can't say no to that! Timbuktu makes a nice bag too.

Edit: Water resistant too - comes in handy when it starts raining/snowing on ya!
