As bad as it sounds, you may want it something a bit cheezy but meaningful to the type of work you do.

The best way to start coming up with a name is to write out a list of keywords that someone looking for your services would feel compelled to contact.

I'll get you started:

Photo
Picture
Portrait
Lens
Camera
Impression
Image
Memory
Forever

Sounds rough... but carry around a piece of paper and try to come up with 50 keywords in the next day or so. Put down ANYTHING you think of. It may help spawn other ideas when you post them. ;)

You sure you want to get into wedding photography? I've heard of a lot of photographers (and have talked to one) that say it really sucks because it gets mundane and ceases to become enjoyable, artistic, and self-satisfying, unlike freelance or nature photography.

Well...portrait and wedding photography is where the money is (I'm doing a wedding in Oct. for $1000). You won't make much trying to sell nature photos. I do take landscapes in my spare time as they are what I truly love to do. As long as I have time left for my personal photography then that will be enough.

Right now it's just going to be an on the side thing that will help me make a few extra bucks.

If you have the capital to have them printed and framed, nature pictures can make going to a starving artists type show work the weekend. ;)

But yeah, won't make much money without aiming for the customers expecting to pay the money ;)

Yeah..also once I build up a nice collection of landscape, etc work then I can dump them into stock photo sites and make some extra cash that way too. Get enough good images in there and you could pull in a good $300-500 or more a month on stock photo work.

I'm going to be starting a photography business next year which will focus (hahaha...ha..erm) on weddings and portraits. I cannot think of a name for the thing though =/ at least not one that's obviously used.

I was going to suggest that you might just want to use your name as part of the business name, but Stiff Photos wouldn't sound too good. ;)

Seriously though, some things to consider are that you want a name that is catchy enough that your customers will be able to remember it easily so that they can refer you to others, but you don't want it to be so cutsey that it doesn't sound professional. For the kind of clients you'll want to pull in, they'll want a business that sounds very professional. You might also want to consider where your business will be listed compared to others in the yellow pages for those looking there. Some people purposely choose a name beginning with an A so that their's will one of the first people looking and calling around will see, like A-1 Photo or All Occasions Photography, etc.

Get your wedding shot.
Marriage Shots.
I'm gonna shoot you.
I Flash. (or... iFlash)
