I just built my new amd xp 2100+ system.

Here are specs:

KR7A133-R Mobo
amd athlon xp 2100+
radeon 7500
wd1200jb 120gb hard drive
volcano 7+ cpu fan

I have all latest bios and drivers for everything

I just installed half life and downloaded counter-strike, but when i go to connect to a server, counter-strike just closes and reverts back to my desktop.

Please help

It would be deeply appreciated

Thank you

If you have it set for open gl try d3d and see if that works. Also try uninstalling counterstrike and halflife and installing it all again. When you join a half life game does it kick you out to? What about another version of counterstrike? It sounds like it's your video card drivers. Also get the latest direct x 8.1 and windows updates.

you are helping a lot. Actually such a system is overkill for cs. but anycase.

True. But I guessed crazy8gamer had a sence of humour, unlike someone I could mention. Please lighten up! I'm sure he will see the funny side of it. I did stick my tongue out as a gesture.

If the guy is offended then I apologise. :frown:

make sure your nic card is not sharing an irq with the vid card or the sound card....this is more of a hardware fix so try software fixes first....

What OS are you using? Does it happen with TFC, or DMC as well?

Does it also happen with offline games ? Anyway you tried some bios gaming tweaks like disable all video shadowing in bios, disable system bios cacheable, also try running at AGP 2x mode and see if that helps.

Last thing what are your CPU and system temps?

DMC SUCKS MAJOE ASSBALLS!

What you want is a little game called "Freedom" Its where you run down black people and return them to the south in 1848 time. It runs on the DOOM III Enjin tooT!

Try running Half-Life in Win98 compatibility mode, perhaps.. might help.

Why is it that every post I've ever seen of yours is all about pleasuring animals? I hope you don't live close to a zoo or something... :p

If you right click over the exe. file for the game(that starts the game) you will see properties, select that ,then a compatibility tab will be at the top on the right ,go there,WinXP should run CS,HL,TFC etc fine without 98 compatibility mode (does on my XP),but it`s worth a try.

i tried running it in all compatibility modes and none of them worked.

The main problem i'm getting is that i can't get into the console load screen. once i click join on a server it just closes cs or it pops up that little send error reporting messege. When i try to create lan games same thing happens. I tried clicking on console and the same thing happens. I still don't know what to do. I think i might need a new mobo. You can't have a gaming system without CS. That's just ludicrous.

Well,
please offer and suggestions either on how to fix this problem or a good mobo for an amd xp 2100+

You tried other games(not HL) like Quake 3 if you`ve it , both online and offline, you need to find out if it`s just HL and the mods or all games period that you`ve problems with.

Sounds like it`s just an HL/CS problem then, did you get the updates for HL as well (1.1.0.9) is latest version, do that first then install CS 1.4 after .You might need the HL 1.1.0.9 full update which is about 78mb or so.
