I am a perfectionist. I love everything to be perfect, and I am obsessed about having the best.

So I visit MajorGeeks 20 times a day checking for new software versions. and if I find that CCleaner or any other program has had a small incremental update by 0.1 in the version number. I format my notebook (well not really, I restore an image I took using Acronis True Image to the point before I installed ANY software) then I reinstall everything including that new program. I don't want to touch my registry, i want it perfect and clean, yet I don't want to use any registry cleaning program as they break things most of the time without us knowing.

My curse started when I purchased a license of Acronis True Image, and now since I can easily go back to the perfect image of Windows I have created with all my folders (docs, pics, vids) set up correctly and windows is up to date. Any small glitch and I restore my Acronis Image back and start again!

Kaspersky have deactivated my Kaspersky Internet Security key as it has been activated 15 times in a few days so they thought it was being used illegally when it was really me activating it on the same computer.

Help me someone....help me get over with this Format Disease Syndrome Type-A and help me to now want everything to be perfect. I feel im going cukoo and i'm only 27 years old :whiste:

So do you actually use your computer, or do you just spend time tweaking it? Like a car in your garage you won't drive on the street and can't afford to take to the track?

you hit the nail on the head.

I keep tweaking it / installing new programs more than I actually use it :'(

You need a different hobby, if this is for real. I thought I wasted time in front on the puter, but that's just needless...

What happens when Acronis comes out with an update? How about antivirus updates? Do you delete your paging file at every boot and recreate it? What about bad sectors that the harddrive has secretly remapped?

Seriously though, there comes a time when you realize certain activities take WAY more time than any benefit you can ever hope to achieve from doing them. But if it floats your boat, have at it.

If this is for real he probably has a type of OCD that will transfer to other hobbies...

Ultimately you have to realize that the stress of doing this isn't even worth the potential repercussions.. worst case is what? Your computer crashes from the new software and you have to format anyway??

What happens when Acronis comes out with an update?

When that happens, I call it a disaster has just happened, I would format my notebook, install Windows, windows updates, configure folders, configure sharing folders, etc, then install the latest version of Acronis True Image

How about antivirus updates?
that's not a problem, Kaspersky had given me a manual activation license which is a file rather than activate online on their servers because I managed to get my 2 year / 2 user license key blacklisted within 15 days of purchasing it o_O

I always install Kaspersky after the last image created by Acronis

How I usually do it is:

1) Install Windows, activate it, configure folders (docs, music, pics, etc) , install Windows Updates and reboot as needed, install Acronis True Image FTW

Create first Backup named: Windows

2) Then I install all drivers and reboot after each one

Then I setup the parameters for the power options of when to turn off the screen, etc for each power plan

Create 2nd Backup named: WindowsDrivers

3) Install Office 2010 Professional Plus, call MS to activate it (since my product key was blacklisted due to activating it twice a day before

Perform all new Office/Windows updates

Create 3rd Backup named: WindowDriversOffice

4) Install Adobe Audition, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe AIR

Create 4th backup named: WindowsDriversOfficeAdobe

5) Install Firefox and thunderbird and Kaspersky Inernet Security

Create 5th backup named: WindowsDriversOfficeMozillaKaspersky

Should Office get a new Service Pacj in the future or if I decide to upgrade to a newer version of Office, I would go back to Backup Image 3, if there are any new drivers, I'd go back to backup image 2, and so forth.

But the most backup I find myself going back to nowadays is Backup 5 since it includes Kaspersky and Firefox / Thunderbird since those are a pain to setup with all the addons that I use

Wow... you need to seek help.

I know! This is why I posted here! so you can help me!

Someone please take out the idea from my head that if you uninstall a program your Windows won't be fuX0red up  so I can simply uninstall a program and then install the newer updated one without having to re-invent the wheel

I've had my Vista install since 2007. and my Ubuntu install since 2008. Both run great, and I don't install worthless tweak tools, or do anything else. They do what a computer's supposed to do, which is run. If a computer can't run on its own, it's worthless.

Well since everything still works after you uninstall something, then it's not "fuX0red" up now is it? Nope.

There's no reason to reimage as much as you're doing. You're probably wearing out some of your hardware doing it so much. Once a year, at most. Maybe once every six months if you're anal, but that's still pushing the boundaries of completely unnecessary.

I think they meant professional help, as in for an OCD disorder. If this is a serious post, and not a troll as some have suggested, why is it that you feel the need to have a pristine clean operating system all the time?

Take your computer back to the store and tell them you want a Mac.

Absolutely ridiculous to bother doing all of that for program updates.

Don't get me wrong, a fresh load every once in a while can be a good refresher for a system, but anything more frequently than quarterly is just wasting your time. Honestly, doing it twice a year is a bit much.

Want help? Just stop doing it. There are hundreds of millions of people who are completely clueless and load this, that, and the other on their computers without reading any fine print. They run their systems for years not even thinking about it. And here you are, someone who seems to be somewhat technically savy, and you're reloading daily?

What is the point? To maximize every single ounce of performance out of your system? To make sure there are no errors in the registry?

Go into your file system and create a new document called file.txt. Go into your registry and create a new registry key anywhere you like and call it newkey. Is your computer broken now? Nope. Stop wasting your time reloading for software updates, just remove and install the new freaking app. Takes considerably less time, and you won't notice the difference.

When you have an actual problem that you can't fix, rebuild.

THANK you sir! you are the first one who actually took my post seroiusly and came up with a simple answer that actually helps!

I will do just that! no more formatting/reimaging until my computer breaks!

Let's see how long this lasts...

Use Chrome.
You can't pick its install location. You can't pick its cache size or location. It updates automatically leaving the last version sitting there uselessly. But it's so much better than Firefox that you learn not to sweat the loss of control.

And antivirus when you have an image? Noob.

Office? Bloatware. L2Notepad.
