Ok the finger bruising is NOT that bad unless you are using medium-heavy guage strings. Even then, within weeks your fingers will develop callouses and you won't feel much pain at all.

yes i wonder too..

I am using the Guitar Rig 2 but you need the pedal to make it work. It is from Native Instruments.

You don't need the pedal but it helps for wah effects. They have a downloadable demo.

GR is pretty hot, well most of the models. The best part IMO are the tape decks. Load up a backing track from and rip. Backing tracks.

From there get some beginner guitar books and get to work. I suggest you learn your music theory, as this is the only way you will ever progress (yes that means learning scales, modes, and all that boring crap). Also, buy a metronome and always use it when you practice.

If you are very serious about this I suggest getting private lessons. You will learn far quicker than if you try and teach yourself.

being in the school band when you could join up since 5th grade helps alooooot. Musical inclination before you start another instrument that you have not yet been trained on help you move along much quicker. (sax for me)

I get like that once a week! :D I'm studying under a master guitarist right now, and he'll show me something amazing, then I can't do it. Suddenly, 3 weeks later, I start to get it down, and then BINGO!

The rhythm section of the Allman Brother's "You Don't Love Me" nearly made me throw my guitar out the window becuase I couldn't get those damn 16th beat notes :|
Here's a clip of the b@stard.

When I get like this, I drop it and play something I enjoy
For example...

I'll come back to it later and then try it again. The rewards come from all the frustraition you put in :)

QFT.. I would think that oh there can't be much more to it, but then I would try a new song, or I would learn a new chord (bought this wonderful book at borders with every guitar chord in it evar color coded tells you every note in each chord and such) and I would have like a breakthrough from that rut. I hear something I like a nd try to play it and really help me pick up something new I didn't learn.

Line 6 Guitar Port is probably my favorite gadget right now.

QFT, for $100 (at Musician's Friend) that thing is a steal. Granted you can't leave your room with it, but for solo practice it sure beats buying separate effects pedals for $50+ each. If you want any effects and don't mind sitting near your PC when you practice, definitely get one of these.

Fortunately my studio and computer desk are in the same room.

I picked up Fretbord Logic a year ago and am getting back into it again. Basically, you don't need chord encyclopedias when you can learn what makes one and make your own. Great book.

Look at the older JCM800 combos used, you can find good bargains with them.

I got my JCM800 50watt combo for under $400.

Haggle. If Sam Ash doesn't budge, go somewhere else instead. From what I've read, Guitar Center reps are told to make the deal happen, as long as they don't suffer a loss on the sale.

They have lots of classic and current amp models- not just Line6 (and even acoustic amps!). You can even adjust mic placement and type with the amp. Way cool.

And post pics of that Jackson, dude! :D

I love Jacksons, my first DK2 made me forget all about Fender and Gibson (ok, maybe not completely, Gibsons are just beautiful, classy instruments...too bad you gotta take out a second mortgage just to buy one).

Is there an acoustic simulator somewhere in there (i.e. make an electric sound like an acoustic?) If so which one is it?

Roland Cube 60 has an acoustic simulator...surprisingly good too. The manual recommends you use it with neck/middle single coils, but it sounds even better with a bridge humbucker as long as you reign the bass in a bit on the EQ.

I'm sure this is a no-no on this forum, but i'm selling my Yamaha F310 acoustic if you're interested in it. It's a good budget guitar, it's what I learned on. Just PM me if you're interested. I really don't need it (Martin D-16 ;) ).

Yes, you get the Line 6 Piezacoustic 2 amp model, with whice you can use a number of different mics, plus set the distance from the amp. You can get about any sound you want out of it ;)

Bah, everytime I use that one, I can't hear any sound coming out. What am I doing wrong? I have the volume turned up, and have never had any problems hearing any of the other amps.

I have a Jackson JS30 guitar that will be my project. Text Going to go with a pair of Carvin pickups, since they are pretty cheap. Going to wire them up exactly like a Carvin DC127, which has dual coil splitting. New tuners should be a plus too. Should be fun, considering I used to mess with soldering, and electrical stuff when I was younger.

As for a Gibson, nice guitars, but I would never buy one.
