Also, don't forget more fans ( at least 2 80mm for the front, 4 prefferable.) low CFM if you want noise down. Also, you still need a heatsink for the CPU.

Why are you insisting on a P4, especially for a budget box? You're going to get less for your money and it's just as easy to setup an Athlon XP rig.

And that setup should be cake for $500. I configured a full blown gaming system for a friend for $680 including tax and shipping and that was with profound amounts of excess.

i have gotten it down to this. even though i have to pay extra for the case, windows do look cool, and this way i get more fans.

after i saw the XP 1700+ for 53 bucks, i gave up on the p4, and am going XP. i think this machine will do pretty well.

maybe if i get some real cash, i could build one of these for myself as well

I am pretty sure you do not need 3 heatsink fans. Also, that case is actually cheaper then the other one by $17 dollars, and comes with 2 ball bearing fans.

You want 80mm case fans. just the fans
