Im 14 and in 8th grade, im only 5'6! I need to grow taller! Im considered taller than average here, but i still want to get taller. I do basketball and track already, and i eat well...i think. Dont worry, im not fat, im 120 lbs. with a 14% body fat. What should i do? Should i continue lifting weights, cuz i noticed that most weight trainers dont get very tall. I know basketball will help thought right, i used to play small forward, now coach downgraded me to shooting guard (wtf?!?). Yea, it blows. I want to grow taller so i can play n DUNK in high school baby! I dont drink a whole lotta milk, just orange juice...should i switch to milk? Or what other sports should i do, i mean like, what sports would help me grow? dont worry, i think im pretty physically capable, well, at least when comparing to the majority of people in school...thnx all:D

Unless you can alter your DNA...just give it time. You're only 14!! When I was 13/14 and first entered high school I was barely 5' even. I'm now about 5' 8"/5' 9" but stopped growing probably 15 yrs ago :) (35 now)

Bah, I am one who needs to grow taller. I am wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to short. It has to do a lot with your genes though.

Got Milk? :D

Milk will help, but you're still limited by genetics.

edit: beat to the DNA stuff :(

Just make sure you cover the basics: have enough nutrition in your diet, sleep enough, etc. Not much more you can control.

My sophomore year of highschool I was only 5'1. I am now 5'10 and a junior in college. Just give it some time.

You're still young. Give your body time.

As others have said, you're limited greatly by your genes.

But, i'd suggest just playing sports, eat well, etc...

If you are concerned that you aren't growing, i'd go and see your physician for advice.

oh, stupid genetics...it figures...my dad is only 5'10 and my mom 5'5, and my brother who is now 24 only 5'10. However, when my brother was my age, he was only about 5'0...

In contrary to what some parents tells their kids, there is little you can do about your height. The eating style, exercise are minor factors and genetic holds dominance over anything in height department.

My advice is don't lift weights! You are too young and it will stunt your growth.

5'6 is fine for 8th grade, my son didn't shoot up untill between 15-16 . He was probably 5'3 in 8th grade, now at 17 he is 6'

do fencing...but i doubt ull do it
it forces you to stretch and flex liek everything...i have firends that are freakin tall, mebe its jus their genes
newayz

if you really wanna make ur lims longer, heres what u do
always stretch, 20 count in every way possible...honestly, this will help
if you stretch ur legs, torso + back, arms, and neck, i guarantee this will help
do it before practice and after, and rite be4 u go to sleep
and dont do bull counting,
it will not only increase ur height, but will make u more flexible
but if you dont stay true, there will be no effects, but stay with this for like a year, and when ur growth spurt comes...IT WILL COME LIKE A MOFO...instead of shootin the 5, you will shoout like 7-8
but also dont bulk up, it is true, the more muscle you have, the more tightly ur bones are held together
so after your spurt u can start workin out, but try not to do it be4
good luck dude

contrary to what many believe, genetics only play about 25% of your height. Other 75% has to do with nutrients, exercise, sleeping well (not staying up late, going to bed between 9-10:30).

how do I know this? I read this on an article written by a professor who has been studying this for 20 years, forgot his name though.

I know quite a lot of people with "short" parents but themselves are not.

I think I agree on the 25% part, remeber that everybody 200 years ago were a lot shorter than we were... but we shared the same genes. But we eat better now and have a better liftestyle therefore we're taller.

I don't know what you should EAT to be taller, but milk helps, or so i hear.

You could always try tying your feet to a pole and your hands to a car. Then tell the car to go. That'll stretch you out good.

oh man you all are horribly short ;)

actually... I am too short.. I need to get taller.
I am 19, and almost 6'5"
my mom is like 5'3", my dad is like 6' and he is short
one of my brothers is 6'2, one 6'1(he has a different dad), and 1 6'

[EDIT]
oh yeah and I'm lazy, don't work out or play sports, and my diet is horrible... so I would say stop ALL physical activity, and sit on your butt grubbin junk food :)
