Define "congruent" when talking about line segments. I mean, if it just means "same length as", then this problem is trivial.

She clearly has no future in math if she can't understand basic geometric proofs.

I am sorry you are mistaken, she is in the 9th grade, speaks English, Japanese, Spanish and Sign language. She plays all three Sax's and the piano. On second thought your right she might as well call it quits.........

clearly, speaking 4 different launguages and playing a few musical instruments means that she'll be a math wiz right? Right?

Knowing nothing of math, I could not help in your quest, but I must say, were she my daughter, I'd be very proud. You also have my respect for being a concerned father.
I am ashamed that some fellow members, who claimed to know so much, choose to belittle,
and offer NOTHING!!
All the best sir; Runz

yeah, it sounded like a "lets brag about my daughter post."

no one was saying she wasn't smart. But seeing that post, it's pretty clear she is a liberal arts type of person, not an analytical one.

yeah, just looking at the picture, it seems like it but I wouldn't remember the formal way to prove it.

I guess it would be something like:

AE=BD given
CD=CE given
AE-CE=BD-CD
AC=BC

Wow, I totally forgot how to do these things... happened more than a decade ago! :eek:
I used to be good at math, but I honestly have forgotten everything there is to proofs. Hope some of the previous members' posts helped!

Given: AE=DB
CD=CE
Prove: AC=BC

If AE=10in then DB=10in
CD=CE => They must be 5in each (or any # that you draw on the graph but you need to get them fit with requirement above first)
AE-CE =>10-5 =5 =>AC= 5
DB-CD=>10-5 =5 =>BC= 5
Then : AC=BC
(It doesn't have to be right
angles). You can also prove this by creating
two triangles but and you Side/Angle/Side to prove but it lilttle more works. Good luck.

Right now don't pressure your daughter too much, she would break down if she can't handle all the work. However, when he become a Junior then you should worry. I took Pre-Algebra when I was a Freshmen and my one of my friend was on Dual Enrollment Cal I @ a local college during his Freshman year.

once more thanks for all of the help. I didn't mean to create this into a post about the great things my daughter can do. Keep in mind as like any father I will go to the grave defending my daughter........

Once more thinks for everything, I think we have figured it out with the assistance from those who offered to help.........
