Hi,

I am a newbie and am installing my first PC, so I hope you will be patient with what appears to be something that should be simple to figure out!

I purchased an Antec SLK3700AMB case and an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe motherboard. The Antec manual is not clear about how to connect the rear case fan, and I would like to know how it is done.

The rear case fan has three wires coming out of it. Two of the wires (black and red) go into a 4-pin male power plug. Also, there are 4 wires going from this same plug to another 4-pin female power plug. The third wire coming out of the fan goes into a 3-pin plug by itself (should there be at least two leads? Has one broken away?)

In addition, there is a 3-pin connector from the power supply that looks similar to the 3-pin connector coming out of the fan.

I am confused as to how I am supposed to connect all these to the motherboard/power supply. The motherboard has two 3-pin connectors labeled CHA_FAN1 and PWR_FAN1 in the manual. I have connected a second fan from the front of the case to the CHA_FAN1 connector. How do I connect the first fan? The 3-pin plug has only one wire from the fan. Am I supposed to connect the 3-pin plug to the PWR_FAN1 connector and the 4-pin plug to the power supply? Or am I supposed to connect the 3-pin plug from the power supply to the PWR_FAN1 connector on the board and the 4-pin plug from the fan to a plug on the power supply? Or, is it something else?

I called Antec but got through to their voicemail. Haven't heard back yet for a while, so I hope someone here can help me straighten it out so I can proceed with the installation.

Thanks!

Ketchup79: Thanks for the response! I will try it out that way. Just wanted to be sure I don't mess up the motherboard!

BTW, what do I do with the 3-pin connector from the power supply? Does it need to be connected anywhere?

It's up to you. It is just there so you can monitor the speed of the fans of your power supply. I can't really see a benefit to monitoring them, except that you can see if one of them fails.

Oh, OK. I think I understand now. So, basically, any fan that you connect to the motherboard can be monitored. Since I have three fans (2 case fans, and one power supply fan), I can monitor two out of the 3 and connect the remaining to the power supply plug so it can run "full blast". Is that correct? I assume that the monitoring is done in the BIOS or in one of the ASUS utilities/programs that can be run on Windows.

I am still waiting for a memory stick, so the complete installation will have to wait until it arrives. Until then, I was trying to wire up and install everything else.

Thanks again!
