I normally avoid circuit city like the plague, but I recently got a $1000 gift card there. I'm looking to get a new tv, either Plasma or LCD. I'd like to stay under $1500 if possible. Thinking around 42" and 1080p. Can anyone recommend one there? I haven't bought a new tv in forever.

The Panasonic TH-42PZ77U that Manuwell mentioned can be had for $1599.99.

42HL157 review.
Review of the LNT4661F, which is the same as the LNT4061F, only larger.
I can't find a review on the Panasonic. It just came out in September, so that could be why. Of the 3, I'm pretty sure it's the one I'd get.

I can write my review of the PZ77U after 1 month of use ==> It rocks

PS: It's at 1,399 right now at sears (if paid with Sears CC: add either 24 months no interest financing OR 10% rebate)

what about slightly larger 1080p tvs? My 720p tv (hln 61" samsung) is pissing me off lately, and I promised my wife I'd replace it when something went out on it again. well, guess what? yep, the freakin' dlp lamp bulb blew again for the 2nd time in a month!

I don't expect to get a 61" 1080p for a cheap price, but what are some good deals out there?

If you haven't soured on Samsung, Amazon has the HLT6176S for $1,519.96 with free shipping.
Have you seen the new models with the LED engine? You wouldn't have to worry about bulbs with one of those sets. They cost more, Amazon has the HLT6187SAX for $2,049.99. but it sounds like it might be worth it for you.

That's a good deal. He should be able to price match it at CC.

Do you think a 42" LCD is too big for a bedroom? We are probably 8 feet from the TV.

The toshiba looks like it got a pretty bad review. The Samsung looks nice though. I as leaning more twords LCD over PLasma because my living room has a lot of natural light in it and i heard LCD is better for those rooms.

Was also looking at the Sony 40" Bravia KDL40V3000, anyone have any experience with that one?

Yes the review for that Toshiba was bad, but I saw it at CC and thought it looked pretty good in the store. It doesn't hold a candle to the Panny though.

I think that Sony is the same model that a buddy of mine has. I like that one too, but would still get the Panny, because it's bigger.

I've got the Panny TH-42PX75U in my bedroom and it feels just fine. At my desk I'm about 4 feet away from it, and when in bed about 8ft. Yes, I have a small room.

Find a TV you like, regardless of the store, and if they do not carry it at CC or you cannot get a good price at CC, you can always sell the $1000.00 card on ebay for $975.00 (or some other small discount). You would be amazed what people will buy on ebay - if you get lucky, some idiots will bid it OVER $1,000.00!!!

I think I'm going to go with the panny. I am debating on if I should get the extended warranty from CC. Has anyone had any experience with that? Is it worth the money?

depends on price/length of warranty. I believe I paid ~$300 for 5 years at BB. considering that Samsung recently offered to renew my manufacturer's warranty by 3 more years for a measly $750 (75% the purchase price), I figured I got a good deal. of course, in 3 years I could get a better new plasma for that price...

One other thing, the nearst CC with the panny is about 25 miles from me. I have been learning a bit more, and I'm wondering if I would be better off getting a larger screen 720p instead of a smaller size 1080p. I've read that resolution should be one of the last factors you consider (as long as your not using it as a monitor).

I will be sitting about 8.5 Feet from the TV. Mostly using HD content from Dish Network (until i get a Blu Ray Player). Would I be better off getting a 720p 50" or bigger instead of a 42" 1080p?

I had the same decision to make and I decided on the larger screen with 720p. Anything over 6' will look the same between 720p and 1080p. I'd rather have the extra real estate than the possibility for a sharper picture if I decided to sit 5' away from my TV.

It depends on how much they want for the warranty. I wouldn't pay more than $300 for 5 years, and many think that even thats too much. Are you willing to pay $300 for piece of mind? It's a gamble no matter which way you decide to go.

That's one you are going to have to determine for yourself. They say that most people can't tell the difference between 720p or 1080p at 50". I think thats crazy, but then some people wear glasses, so who knows. Go to the store and see for yourself.
