HELP! Error message in 98...

I'm working at a lab right now, and we're getting a very odd error message on one of the 98 boxes:

Windows cannot find winsvrc.exe.

This program is needed for opening files of type 'Application'

I've never come across this before, and have never even seen the file winsvrc.exe; I did a search for the file on the drives of other 98 boxes, and had no luck finding it. I even did a dir /s /a:h to search for hidden files manually, and couldn't find it. 😛

Has anyone come across this before?

We (unfortunately) don't know if any apps, etc., have been installed on this machine recently that might be causing it.

I reimaged the machine, and now it works fine. Pfft. 😛

Rob,

You might want to run a complete virus scan. The only reference I got to that file was connected to the Navidad virus. Microsoft had nothing on it.

I had one like that not the same everytime I booted my PC up,anyway I went into WIN.INI via sysedit &amp; deleted the file line it was referring to since it was not a Windows file or program.
