I assume that the green seti icon is the gui (graphical user interface) version. If so you should uninstall it through the controll panel. And the yellow seti icon is probably SetiDriver, correct? If it is yellow it means that you either have a workunit to upload or you still have workunits that need to be downloaded. Click transmit in setidriver to either upload the results or to download new WUs. Then it should turn blue. If this doesnt help, or doesnt sound like what you have I will stay around for a while to help. I hope you enjoy being on the team.

You must have a newer version of setiDriver, but that is ok. So do you only have one seti icon at any one time?

There are no stupid questions.:) I understand what you mean now. It turns green when you are sending/recieving new WUs. Everything sounds like it is working fine. What is your estimated total time?

Sounds to me like the perfect progression of questions and answers. I'm betting you have it all correct now.

Once again, welcome to the TeAm!!

Ok, getting a bit more in-depth but thats what is fun! Ok, you need to take the origional .zip file that setiDriver came in and unzip the file to the directory that the seti CLI is in. Say C:/S@H. Once that is in there right click on setidriver.exe and go to send to, from the pop out menu click on desktop (create shortcut). This will make a shortcut icon on your desktop so that you dont have to go to the seti folder to start it. Then set how many WUs you want to cache and click transmit.

That might be a bit hard to understand from how i wrote it so ask away if you need to.
I will tell you how to make it come up on startup automatically once you get it up and running.

eh, not too big of a deal.

I assume you have windows XP since you said that it is in the start list (recently used programs), if anybody has XP pro maybe you could help her with the thing where you connect to their computer.

I'll write this as if you dont have anything installed.

Download the seti CLI version from here. Go to My Computer and click on C:/, right click and create a new folder named S@H (or whatever you want). put the file you downloaded into that folder. Next download SetiDriver from here. Unzip the file with Winzip into the C:/S@H directory. Now go to the S@H folder and (for ease of use) right click on SETI Driver.exe and select send to and from the menu that comes out from it select desktop (create shortcut). This will put a short cut to seti on your desktop. Close out of (or minimize) all folders and windows and make sure you are on the internet. On your desktop click on SETI Driver and at first you should see a red upside down dish in your system tray. Set the desired cache size to 1 at first and click transmit. You will then see a command line window. It may ask you to either create a new account or to log into an existing account. Once you have done that it will download 1 WU and start processing it. If all went well you can increase the cache so that incase the seti data server is out you can still process WUs. Now right click on any Seti Driver Icon and select send to desktop. Take this new short cut and click and drag it to the start button, the start menu will come up. Now continue dragging it until you find the startup folder and put the shortcut in there. Now seti will start up when ever you start your computer. When you get a WU done the Seti Driver icon in the system tray will turn yellow, you must then open it and click on transmit, this will upload the result and download a new WU.

I hope that helps.

I bet you can't wait until you start going to yard sales and buying Windows 95 machines with a 75mhz Pentium in them to boost your production.;)

i can get a few!

sure, even if it takes them 2 days to complete a WU if you have enough of them it can make a big difference.
If you have broadband internet and the computers are capible of being networked you can just put them in a closet and have them automatically return and download new WUs.

Cool! I only have 3 going at it;)
If your husband knows how to network just tell him to network them all together and make sure that they are all working and the you can install the seti client on them all and tell them to automatically send and recieve results. If he doesnt know how to network I suggest you go to the Anandtech networking forum as they should be able to help more than me. Before you know it you will pe pumping out 20WU/day.:D

Wow, that's alot of power! You should be able to get between 12-14wu/day out of that fleet, you should be proud!
It sounds like your up and running pretty well so I guess I will leave this thread for now (I will be back on the forums though (funny, 3,000,000,000+ websites and I only go to 10 or 20 of them regularly:p))
