help critique this frist time build

Hello everyone, i am a long time reader first time poster.
Ok here is what i think im going to get. this computer will be for games school assugments and video editing there will be ZERO ocing what or ever. my goal is to stay below 2k and i live in CA so i might have to worry about taxes.

here is what ive come up with.

anyone? this a first time build

looking at the 550w what is EPS?

Niether PSU... get a Seasonic S12-500. Much quieter, more efficient, and it moves more air.

AS5 is unnecessary. Get a NEC ND-3520a dvd burner. I'd also get a ATI X800 XL instead.

the 550 for sure, no idea what eps is, but it is single rail and damn strong on that single rail...

the 3520 was typo and want a single rail PSU and i don't like ATI. that PSU is a server psu will it work in a normal everyday comp?
i was also looking at the antec true 550

There... is that good enough for you? :laugh: You won't need more than 18A for that whole rig, so I'd reccomend a Seasonic Tornado 400w

ok maybe i should ask will the 550w psu stated above work on the system? yes that one you stated is way overkill. i would rather have LOTS of cushon(spelling) that be posbily cutting it close

I won't say the famous fools and money quote... No matter how much it applies. Yes, it will work with the adapter it comes with. Which will add more resistance.

The Seasonic I reccomend is plenty of cushion. It also will be cheaper cost of ownership for your whole computer, as it's more efficient.

Forget those psus. Get a 550 watt sparke. It has like 36A on the 12V, made by forton, and goes for around 90 bucks.

I would get thex800xl for 300 bucks. 100 less than the GT, same performance.

You really only need about a ~380W S12 to power what you have listed. Seriously.

I'd also recommend the X800XL, because it's currently the best deal in high-end videocards, but you seem to be nV-biased so I won't bother trying. What specific problems have you had in the past? We might be able to assure you that they've been fixed.

Other than that, your setup seems good.

all of my friend have had problem with ati i dont know the specific problems but i just dont want to have to bother with it.

i know i dont need so much power, but if you had to choose between those 2 which would you pick?

The X800XL is a great card.I have owned both ATI and Nvidia cards and never had a problem with both,provided that the cards were properly installed.

Most likely user error. If that's the case, they'd have just as many problems with an nV card.

Neither. You don't need that much power. I might go for the 550.

Also consider XClios--they're made by Channel Well, which makes Antec and Enermax PSUs--in addition to Fortrons and Seasonics.

Yep, the Seasonic will be your best bet...you won't be cutting it close either.

You can save a few bux and get some Corsair Value Ram. 1 GB costs about $95 now...

I agree both those PSU's are way overkill, but I really like Enermax. Maybe get the 420W for only $75.
I suggest you get a different MB for your first build. The DFI has some issues and tends to run less stable than other NF4 boards. I suggest the Chaintech VNF4U, or the MSI Neo4 (check ZZF for prices on MSI).

get a OCZ modstream 450W and a X800XL. 100 dollars more than you can get an xt.

if you're not ocing at all then dont bother with a hsf or as5... just stick with the stock it'll work fine...

EPS... I think it's a server spec.

The dual rails on the XClios won't hurt anything (it's a part of the ATX v2.0 spec IIRC), but I can see why you wouldn't want to go for them.
