If by too much power, you mean a powersupply with really nice ratings and plenty of wattage, then no.

If you mean too much power meaning voltages that are too high, then yes.

well im gettinga new case and pwer supply for the system and putting my old sys in there for the time being..my current sys is running on a 260w PSU will a big 550w hurt it at all?

No; it'll only draw what current it needs. However, it's possible that with such a little load the huge unit might not be quite as efficient.

Of course, if voltages are way out of whack, that's a different story.
