I am terribly sorry for posting this here. But I think only you guys might know the answer!

I got 2 sticks of Crucial RAM a few days ago as a gift for my birthday, but I don't need them! I obviously don't have the receipt. Can anyone PLEASE tell me if I can return it to BestBuy for any form of cash/credit?

Sorry again! And huge thanks.

If they do accept it, it will only be for a store credit. It just depends on the cashier if they take it or not.

The OT forum wouldve answered it just fine since there's no "official" answer on it. It all depends on your BB and their manager. Getting cash back you have almost no chance but by being very nice and not looking like a punk kid then you may be able to squeeze out store credit for it.

As long as its not opened I'm pretty sure you can return it for credit. Doubtfully you'll get cash.

I tried, unsuccessfully at my local store.

Just make sure that if the manager tells you to go wait outside while he uses the phone you don't stick around. silly best buy :p

I am a respectable, educated person. I dress well and speak well. Why would they want to call the police when I try to return something legally purchased?

Thanks for the info,
and I already apologized for posting in the wrong place.

Being a Best Buy employee myself I can tell you BB's policy towards no receipt returns. There is NO RECEIPT returns allowed on items unless extenuating circumstances or during the Christmas buying season. The first I don't believe you have since it was a gift. The second you could do if you wanted to wait it out till then. But then of course you get it for the cheapest price that BB has sold it at within the past month.

Of course different BB's will tell you different things because BB employees don't know their own companies policy (including me). Simply put because I was told by another employee and have yet to read these things printed out as being "written in stone." I've seen all sorts of things...

I wish you luck. Actually what you should probably do is just sell it on ebay.

i can't find the link, but it was posted recently about how someone trying to pricematch a geforce 4 from best buy was arrested for using a 'tracked' receipt.

Man, don't be so harsh on him...

I don't think u be able to return it , but mostly depend on the manager
i think you could try to beg the manager, and ask for store credit
but good luck to you man :]

They'll let you make an exchange most likely, based on the lowest selling price of the item in the past 30 days. They do have the ability to give you store credit, but the generally aren't allowed to do so because it affects the store's margin/return numbers. If the product is still sealed, you might have a little more bargaining room. But most likely they'll just allow you to exchange it for another product of equal or lesser value. Possibly with store credit as change, but never cash.

how did you pay?
they can reprint your recipt for you.

EDIT:
to clarify, if you used a crecit card, its very easy to find it and reprint it
if you used cash, its harder, but if you know when you made the purchase, that helps a lot.

EDIT #2:
It also helps if you remember which register you paid at

I'd say it takes ~1min of computer work if you paid w/credit card
max of 5min if you paid cash and you dont remember anything but that you bought it in the last couple of days.

Also, this can only be done at the store you purchased it at.

EDIt #3:
elfnumber1 - you should know this :p
what dept do you work in?

JeffCutter and badluck,

you can go and fvck yourselves......... this guy already apologized for posting in the wrong forum in his first line in this thread.

To think about it, BB is very closely related to hot deals, so I wont think of it as off topic after all

I'd go anywhere BUT Beast Buy. They have the most inconsistant retail return policies of the major chains.

Here is the link to the OT "BB Arrest" Thread . . . check out the last page (my post for the links to the police report and "facts" of the case) HERE.

I would just explain to the people that gave you the gift that the hardware they got you is incompatible with your current machine and they would be useless. I'd rather be honest then be stuck with RAM I could use or sell.

Once my uncle got me some computer stuff that I couldn't use. I just explained that it was no use to me... he gave me cash and took back the items and I thanked him for the effort he put into searching and buying stuff for me.

MAKE SURE YOU THANK THEM if you ever want to see another gift.

Best Buy sucks!!

There is no way you would find me begging for my money back there with no reciept!!
(Hell I very very rarely will even shop there any more...and only for the super specials)

Just sell the thing and be done with it! On Egay or to a friend...

IMO it's not worth the hassle!
:)
