can someone tell me what thatti is? is this supposed to be known?

chaotic's post doesn't seem to make much sense to me... unless, as it pertains to the quote i gave in the op, "thatti" means the dress of the people of thatta...

ok. I did some research. It looks like "Thatti" is actually "Thaadi" which means "beard".

"Thaadi is further classified into three viz., Chuvanna Thaadi (red beard), Vella Thaadi (white beard) and Karutha Thaadi (black beard).

Literally, Vella Thaadi means white beard and is worn by virtuous characters. Karutha Thaadi literally means black beard and it is for primitive beings. All the three types of characters wear beards in respective colours."
