"There are several kinds of Kathakali costumes namely, Sathwika (the hero), Kathi (the villain), Minukku (females), and Thatti."

can someone tell me what thatti is? is this supposed to be known?

a timely answer is important... thanks 🙂

I'm extremely white, but I found this on Wikipedia:
-
Thatta, derived from Thatti, Thatt or Thatto, a Sindhi word for a small settlement on riverbanks, was an important medieval city locally known as Nagar-Thato. All historic accounts paint Thatta as a populous and flourishing trading post and a refuge of saints and scholars.

i need a second, and/or third, on either of these two posts please...

chaotic's post doesn't seem to make much sense to me... unless, as it pertains to the quote i gave in the op, "thatti" means the dress of the people of thatta...

if anyone has any indian friends on right now on facebook or something, can you please ask them?

it's important.

ok. I did some research. It looks like "Thatti" is actually "Thaadi" which means "beard".

"One of the most interesting aspects of Kathakali is its elaborate make-up code. Most often, the make-up can be classified into five basic sets namely Pachcha, Kathi, Kari, Thaadi, and Minukku. "

You found the answer 🙂

"Thaadi is further classified into three viz., Chuvanna Thaadi (red beard), Vella Thaadi (white beard) and Karutha Thaadi (black beard).

Literally, Vella Thaadi means white beard and is worn by virtuous characters. Karutha Thaadi literally means black beard and it is for primitive beings. All the three types of characters wear beards in respective colours."
