I would appreicate it if some of you could review the build i put together. I have spent a few hours reading the postings, which were extremely helpful, and put together something that fits my needs. Only thing I have ever really done is buy a new video card and install it, so Im pretty new to this.

I will mainly use it for gaming and dont want to turn down the settings. I occasianly play FPS and WOW. Most of my choices were from the main build thread and some other threads. I just want some fresh eyes to review this and make sure what Im looking at will work well together.

PLEASE when you POST threads asking for input on system builds tell us...

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing. - Mainly Gaming

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread - $Hoping to stay in the 900 - $1100 range

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from. - USA

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture. Intel, EVGA, open to other brands

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are. Only the monitor, 20" Dell

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads. Yes

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds. Not at this time, but I wouldnt want to leave that option open because you never know

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
2-3 Weeks

CPU - E8400 or E8500 -

Motherboard - EVGA - Like the brand, I had an issue in the past and their customer support just took care of it, still open to others also.

RAM - 4GB - GSkill

VIdeo Card - EVGA 280 GTX - I ordered it from Buy.com for cheaper than the link, but Im pretty much set on that

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...0Super%20Clocked%201GB

[B]Power Supply - Corsair, After a while this just started getting confusing so I just went with one that was on the build list

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817139005

Case - Coolmaster - I wanted to get something with USB, Heaset plugs that can be accessed from the front or top area

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811119137

Hard Drive - WD 640gb

DVD Drive - Samsung

If there is something Im missing please let me know. Thank you for your time.

Looks good except for the odd choice of motherboard. If you aren't planning on doing SLi (using 2 or more graphics cards) then get a P45 board instead, like a Asus P5Q Pro or Gigabyte GA-P45-UD3R.

Otherwize a nice build

Also, you chose DDR2 ram, and if you decide to stick by your original choice in motherboards, the 790i only uses DDR3 which is quite a bit more expensive. Otherwise, decently nice build, though what the others have posted would be a good idea.

you've made some good choices, However there may be a problem between the case and the power supply.

it appears the psu cooling air intake is ONLY from the bottom which would cause overheat of the psu mounted in the case you have picked out.

most psu's are mounted at the top.

may also want to consider a good heatsink and fan for the proc instead of using the intel std heatsink and fan.

here is my fav, 4 pin connector and backing plate, price is great as well, and name brand stuff.

decent bulid, still try the 780 chipset, it uses DDR2 ram and can still utilise Tri SLI, or even the 750 if you only need dual SLI. Also, check out the antec 900 for the case, its decent for that comp you're building.
For a little more money, get a power supply around 800 watts or above, that way, you won't be starving for power when you add another GTX

I think you're wrong on the bolded part.

It's like everyone said, go with a cheaper mobo, half the money still gives you more options then you need.

Couldn't you just turn the psu the other way around??? woah mind boggling.........and anyways that case has a vent on the bottom for the psu. You can turn the psu any way for any case. A psu has no top or bottom.

OP that psu is great. Also go for a P45 mobo.

i looked at the mounting area for both the psu and case, i dont think the psu would mount up if fliped, also looking at the psu from the rear i cannot see through the psu so its likely to be closed on the other end, just an observation.

for a first post the op done some homework, great post.

As others have said, your motherboard and RAM choices are incompatible with each other. You'll either need so pick out some DDR3 RAM, which is pricey still, or select a different board. The Gigabyte P45 board is a solid board. I've been burned by Nvidia's chipsets in the recent past, they run hot and seem to have stability issues. My current Asus P45 board has been rock solid.
