this show is more and more a disappointment. the competitor "chefs" are more incompetent each season and ramsay is goaded by fox to do more and more extravagent displays of anger (spitting out food, throwing food and dishes, etc). the brit version of Kitchen Nightmares is by far the best TV venue for him.

What is the UK version like? More of a real cooking show?

Less yelling, more happiness.

I love Hell's Kitchen. Ramsey is my idol.

As for last night's show, I almost threw up when the one dude was missing from the kitchen during service and they showed him in the back smoking and picking at his toes. I can just imagine he didn't even wash his hands.

i agree that it's more about drama than actual cooking, but i'm not disappoitned. it's still very entertaining.

now that i'm also into top chef, man ANYBODY on top chef would eat ANY of these guys alive on hells kitchen. there really isn't 1 guy hk that seems like they know exactly what they are doing.

'im the 4 star general"

yea too bad you suck ass!

i have a hard time believing thats what really happened. i'm guessing that was all just editing that made it look that way.

I don't watch Hell's Kitchen but I love Ramsay. I watch that BBC show where he improves the restaurants. I think that may be a bit more honest and less dramatized.

This is not the show I am talking about but it's a great clip of Ramsay tossing in a bucket after eating Hákarl.

Yup. At least last season, Rock was pretty talented (dunno about early on)

This season it looks like all noobs.

For me, for some reason, Chef Ramsey is like Mike Rowe to me, they make shows I shouldn't like at all into shows I just can't stop watching.

Are the UK versions available online?

well, it's the UK version of Kitchen Nightmares, not Hell's Kitchen.

if you've seen the US version of Kitchen Nightmares, imagine the show with less Jersey trash, less FOX-style editing, more focus on the chef/cooking, no deux ex machina solution (US version: your restaurant sucks -> here's a brand new $200,000 kitchen and an executive chef, UK version: your restaurant sucks -> lets work hard and make it better) and no obnoxious narrator (Ramsay does the voiceover work).

if you haven't seen the US version, it's a show where Ramsay goes to failing restaurants and helps the owner and chef refocus to make the business successful. there's actual comradarie and no senseless outbursts... though there is plenty of legitimate Ramsay outbursts. plus BBC America doesn't feel compelled to censor anything except the word "fuck". in essence, it feels much more real than his two US shows

Hehe it just started on the west coast. Signature dish segment is fucking brutal. Ramsay at his finest.

Ramsay: "Do you smoke?"
Matt: "Cigarette?"
Ramsay: "No."

That was hilarious.

The beginning was genius as well with Ramsey's deception on the bus. Whoever thought that up should get an award. Great season intro.

I agree. I was telling my wife that I am going to start calling people that piss me off "donkey". 🙂

Pfft I've been doing that for 4 season now.... YA DONKEY!!!!
(it works great)

HK (US), along with Kitchen Nightmares (US) is entirely Fox-ized. If you watch any of Ramsay's BBC shows you will see that Ramsay is generally a good guy and wants to help people out and does so in his own unique way. He's funny, certainly charming and polite too.

His best show IMO is KN (UK) closely followed by the F-Word. If you like ACTUAL cooking shows and like Ramsay, make sure you check those out ASAP.

I saw a few of the male contestants smoking; wouldn't that negatively affect their ability to taste/smell?

So what's the deal with the restaurant? I assume the guests aren't paying, I assume they know they are on a reality tv show, why are they such jackasses somtimes? Are they actors? Or are people just assholes?

He's actually somewhat of a genius when it comes to dealing with people. He gives very honest harsh (albeit a bit over the top) assessments of people, yet also gives them the 'tools' to improve. Many come to realize he was right from the beginning, and become very thankful for his honest criticisms, and for having brought out the best in themselves.

Some people can't get beyond all the f-u's to see what's really going on tho.

this season just seems like a flat out joke. i feel the show has become a parody of itself.

i mean seriously ... NONE of the contestants seem worthy of being the head chef at his new restaurant w/a salary of 250k/yr. not one of them

yup.

I actually like Ross. I don't know how "talented" he is, but I think he's got the right mindset. Corey seems ok as well.

The rest just blow ass. I was really hoping Jen would get the boot last night, god she annoys the fuck out of me. The rest of the men's team also seems worthless.

Top chef would run circles around them.

Ramsey is one talented mofo though. I don't know if they just pulled out some crazy editing or what, but he pillaged that halibut.

i agree.

They seem to pick the same type of person...one guy who thinks he is god (the executive chef), the student who just came out of culinary school, the random nanny type who cooks for the family, etc, etc.

It is the same stories, but man, the drama is quality!

If you want a good show with gordan ramsey being a bit more real, check out his BBC stuff, kitchen nightmares (prior to the US seasons), beyond boiling point, the F word, etc.

there is no FOX association, so it is much more enjoyable imo.
