HELLP!!! Win2k Pro Install problem

I recently scratched my windows 2000 professional CD, and cant do installations with it anymore, hits 17% then says it cant find files on the CD.

Alas i have a backup of the CD that isnt bootable, and i cant figure out how to get it to boot to the CD, if i use boot disks, it asks me for the service pack 1 cd (wtf?) which i dont have. If i use a Windows 95/98/98se boot disk, it simply tells me that setup cannot be run in dos mode. Is there a version of dos that will run it? or is there any way i can do this without getting another win2k pro disk, im not about to fork out $70 for a new win2k CD. If you are using a legal copy of the OS MS will replace the cd for you,give them a call

It's my understanding that you've got a copy of the OS on cd but that it's just not bootable ?
The link I gave you will provide you with instructions and links to d/load all the files you'll need to make
a bootable Win2k cd

Some easy options: Install from a partition using DOS and winnt.exe, not winnt32.exe. Copy the files from the non-bootable CD to a separate partition (say D: must be FAT or FAT32 for DOS.)
Install from DOS (ensure you have and use drive caching like smartdrv). The install program is winnt.exe for DOS.

Run the install from DOS with a DOS driver for your CD-ROM (with smartdrv caching enabled) and just use the copy of install CD as the source for winnt.exe.

Run the makeboot.exe on the old CD from DOS and install from new install floppies with the CD copy or copied files on another partition.

problem was fixed, turned out to be a bad ram chip preventing the install. Thank you all for help though! its very appreciated!
